BassNJake Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 Hard to beat a local thats as good of a stick as Ashley. Especially, if weather comes into play. Also dude has nerves of steel and wont fold under pressure. Hoping for Swindle always liked the guy and after being his marshall a couple of years ago became a bigger fan Quote
snake95 Posted January 11, 2018 Posted January 11, 2018 @Sam just want to post an extra thumbs up for the description of the event and all the great tips. I have my hotel booked and taking my son. Will be our first, we tried to go to a pro event last year and work got in the way. Can you (or others) make recommendations about what to watch for at the blastoffs and whether it makes sense to drive or stick with the bus? What can you see at Hartwell itself? Or just stick with the exhibit hall? Thanks again, Snake Quote

I would love to see A-Mart finally win one. IMHO, he is one of the best to ever fish the Elites. So close so many times and it would be a nice cherry on top of all those AOY titles. 2 Quote

If you see Pete tell him Sam from Richmond says hi. Never made it to the blast off or weigh in. I was told it was easier to take the bus to and from the locations and there were lots of busses. I was having too much fun in the exhibit hall. Remember, bring a black pen marker for autographs; bags for you and your son if you don't get a few from Dick's; think of questions to ask the various manufacturers reps who will be in attendance; wear comfortable shoes; be patient in the parking area traffic; look for lines to meet the pros and see what they are giving away; watch for the pros walking around the hall; and have a great time. And see Glenn, too! If you are a member of B.A.S.S. call them to find out if they have any specials and break areas for members. They will have a booth when you come into the exhibition hall but I believe you have to register with them before the event. Sorry, I may be wrong so call B.A.S.S. and ask about what they are doing for their members. There will be hot dogs and hamburgers and drinks available but they are expensive. But that's show biz. And a cell phone or camera for pics. You have to take pics with the pros and Glenn and Big-O and the MegaStrike gang and the Classic trophy and anything you want to have your son get his picture taken. Be sure your cell phone or camera batteries are fully charged, too. The exhibition hall is like us being a child in a candy store. Great fun and surprises at every turn. 3 Quote

Super User whitwolf Posted January 23, 2018 Super User Posted January 23, 2018 Hank Cherry, a NC boy. Sam gave a great tutorial. I would add these. The Expo is huge and like Sam said it's like being a kid in a candy store. But, it makes for a long day if you get there at 9, catch the bus to the weigh-in around 2(?) ... You will more than likely get back to your room around 8 pm. Dress comfortably, take breaks, sit from time to time, and be prepared to be in a crowd. Since this topic is already here, sound off if you're going. I'll be there Saturday and Sunday. Quote
USMCKoontz Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Do you have to bring a bag with you or can you bring an empty backpack to carry all the freebies you get? Quote

Backpack should be fine. Remember to bring a special pen so the pros you meet can sign your cap. Look for the lines that form when a pro starts giving away stuff, too. Get in line and see what you get. Have fun! Quote
Troy85 Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 If the weather is bad, or super cold again I think it will be Casey Ashley again. If not him, I could definitely see Brandon P winning it, he's been on a roll. Quote

I have always used sharpies when getting autographs (baseball and nascar). Now I need to find a good ballcap to get for them to sign lol Quote

You can also get some caps at the Expo but some, like Raymarine and Mercury and black. I think a sharpie would work. There may be a table with some of the Elite pros who have their own pens. But you need one in case you run into a pro, Glenn, Big-O, and various exhibitors like the guys at Berkley if they are there. No telling who you will see and you may want their autograph. Quote
MTBassin Posted January 24, 2018 Posted January 24, 2018 I gotta say I'm thinking Ashley for this one but who knows. There are a bunch of guys I'd like to see win it. That's the thing I like about watching these events. Just a couple good bites can make or break a guy! Being from Montana, there are not many opportunities to go to an Elite event without a lot of travel involved. But I have already made a deal with my wife that we will make a trip to a Classic as a family some day in the near future. 1 Quote
jtharris3 Posted January 26, 2018 Posted January 26, 2018 My sentimental pick would be Mark Davis or A-Mart. But, I think Casey Ashley will win again. Quote

Fish the Mitt Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 As others have mentioned, I too would like to see Aaron Martens take the W. I'm also hoping to see good performances by Sumrall and Gritter! Quote

Robert Hergan Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 Jordan Lee's performance at last year's Bassmaster Classic was PHENOMENAL. Coming back from 15th place, all the way to win it? And on a jig!? Despite all of his boat problems as well! Great performance. Going with the young gun this year, Jordan Lee! Quote

I Forget who though. Cox has won before that time of year on hartwell 1 Quote
