Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 9, 2017 Super User Posted December 9, 2017 I live down a long (1/4 mile) driveway that is a dead end. I have an alarm about 100 yards from my house that goes off when a car drives by it. I was awaken at 3:40 this morning by it and went into the living room to look and saw my truck at the end of the drive. I jumped in my wife's car but couldn't catch up to him. I have him walking down my drive at 330, leaving at 340 and me leaving at 342 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted December 9, 2017 Super User Posted December 9, 2017 That sucks, hopefully they find him and everything is ok with the truck. How did he start it and get into it so easily would be my question. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 9, 2017 Author Super User Posted December 9, 2017 I leave the ignition key in my console and use my remote to unlock it. I guess he broke my window and found the key. He was here 10 min before he left. Quote
Stephen B Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 That is unfortunate. I hope you recover your property and hope they find the criminal as well. Hopefully people use this to try to protect themselves. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 9, 2017 Super User Posted December 9, 2017 That stinks. Hope everything turns out ok. Quote

Yep. They know who it is. He broke into his cousins house about 1/2 mile away. County Sheriffs were at the house taking a report and he drove by in my truck. Quote
Crappiebasser Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 I hope they get your truck back and the cops get some baton practice one that guy. Quote
tander Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 Hate to hear things like this. Sounds like you will get your truck back, hope he doesn't do any more damage to it. Quote
Super User Gundog Posted December 9, 2017 Super User Posted December 9, 2017 Sounds like you will get your truck back @jbsoonerfan but its a shame people do this kind of thing. With any luck the only damage will be a busted window. And hopefully they lock this clown up because this probably isn't his first run-in with the police. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 10, 2017 Author Super User Posted December 10, 2017 Ok, guys. Update. I normally really dislike Facebook(I don't even have one) because I feel there is more bad than good on there. However, my wife posted it at about 3:30 and within an hour we were contacted by multiple people who had seen it in a town about 20 miles from where I live. The county agencies called me and said that between 3 counties and OHP they have set up a perimeter around the area. He will get caught, not sure if my truck will be in one piece. Quote
Pro Logcatcher Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 Hope this turns out okay. I'm not sure what causes people to do this sort of stuff when they are most likely going to be caught. Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 10, 2017 Author Super User Posted December 10, 2017 I got it back! There was absolutely nothing missing. In fact, he used my credit cards and had put the credit card receipts in the passenger seat. He was pulled over by the OHP about 5 miles from where he was last spotted. He pulled over without incident and when the trooper walked up he said "I stole it". He told him that he got in a fight with his wife and just wanted to get away and had been joy riding. He put a little over 400 miles on. He did smoke in it, which I can't hardly handle, but will figure something out. When I went to get it there was a fresh 30 pack of bud light in the floorboard. I asked the trooper what I should do with it. He said "pour that open one out and drink the rest of them." Pretty crazy, but at leas it's over. 4 1 Quote

Super User Catt Posted December 10, 2017 Super User Posted December 10, 2017 Must be Bulldog fan! ? Glad it all went well!!!! A friend had her Jeep stole & Facebook helped find it! 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 10, 2017 Global Moderator Posted December 10, 2017 It's amazing how many stolen vehicles get stolen because the keys were left in it with the doors unlocked. At least you had your doors locked and were able to get your truck back. Glad they caught the guy before he started drinking and hurt somebody. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted December 10, 2017 Super User Posted December 10, 2017 Wow...glad all is well Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted December 10, 2017 Posted December 10, 2017 That's crazy man! I had someone attempt this with mine. The next morning I modified my garage door to fit it in there and lock it up. Glad you got it back. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted December 12, 2017 Super User Posted December 12, 2017 Is this guy like 8 years old or somethin'? Glad you got the truck back and hope you can get the stink of the cigarettes (and him) out. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted December 12, 2017 Super User Posted December 12, 2017 This whole story has everything it takes to write a hit country song. Step 1. Get in a fight with your ole lady. Step 2. Drink beer. Step 3. Drive around in a truck. 2 Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 18, 2017 Author Super User Posted December 18, 2017 Well, it's been a little over a week since my truck was recovered. Insurance has been in possession of it since 12-11 till Friday of this week. Basically, I am getting the run around. The guy busted up my head lights, tail lights, and scratched the S+++ out of my truck. He drove it in 4wd and ruined my front tires. Burned holes in my seats, the alignment is shot and battery is dead. The insurance is giving me $465 to "fix" all of this. I would have been better off if he would have totaled it or burned it. I was basically told that they had no idea the condition of my truck before he took it so they had to depreciate the cost of everything. Progressive is who I have my insurance with and the guy told me that this type of situation is only the 2nd he has dealt with in 12 years with them. Really sucks, but life goes on. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 Take it to your own shop and do not accept what they've written up. If you were to have put it in as a collision claim, they'd be on it for everything over your deductible. You have insurance to protect against this nonsense. I have no idea how insurance works in OK, but I've had to fight insurance companies here in PA to not get screwed. 1 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted December 18, 2017 Super User Posted December 18, 2017 Agree with @Turkey sandwich. You should be able to get your own estimate and then reconcile the two with the insurance company. It won't be easy....or pretty, but they will negotiate with you (or your shop.) Also, give them a call - they may just be withholding the depreciated value until you get the work done....and then pay it to you directly - later. Not always the case, but sometimes is. I'm guessing they don't want to give you the full value (including depreciation) in case you choose to take their check and not get the work done. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted December 18, 2017 Posted December 18, 2017 also, make sure you have a police report detailing damages. There's no way they should be offering less than your deductible with that kind of damage. Quote
