FishKilla Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Let me start by saying I own 2 pfluger patriarchs a Revo s among a handful of others. I use my buddies Ci4 frequently. I just purchased the new Revo mgx spin reel. Initial impression was excellent. Super light weight. Real smooth retrieve. Drag is extra smooth with no extra initial start up. Balances great on my Imx sjr 902 as well as my 7' E6x. Now the problem. The anti reverse functions correctly less than half the time. Vertical jigging the handle spins backwards 70% of the times I set the hook. Casting small jerk baits I feel it failing constantly. Have any of you guys had any similar experiences with this reel. I'm seriously fuming at this point that a reel of this caliber and price tag is failing so bad... Makes me so mad.. Thanks in advance for any and all replies.
thunderblack Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Funny you mentioned this. I had big issues with this reel last year. It was grinding and very loud. I sent it back for a new one and the new one did the same thing. Their customer service recommended Pflueger for spinning reels (Pure fishing). I would see if they will swap a Patriarch for it. Those reels can not be beat in my opinion.
Super User J Francho Posted December 5, 2017 Super User Posted December 5, 2017 It's under warranty, contact the company. Registering to a forum to complain online as your first post won't fix anything. 2
FishKilla Posted December 6, 2017 Author Posted December 6, 2017 I didn't register to complain. And obviously my post wasn't looking for a fix. Thanks for your useless input though. I was looking for feedback on this reel and if anyone else had this problem with this reel. Already contacted pure fishing and they told me to send it in. tick poor design Imo. $300 piece of trash. Thunder black thanks for your reply.
DINK WHISPERER Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 Actually, Francho did offer useful input by recommending you use your warranty. I had MANY issues with the casting Revo lineup myself. Including the MGX and the STX. Never made it to try the spinning lineup as I stopped using them due to poor CS.
FishKilla Posted December 6, 2017 Author Posted December 6, 2017 Thunder black thanks for your reply. Wasn't trying to be a jerk. But contacting the company was the first thing I did. I thought with all the fisherman in this page maybe someone had experience with this reel that's all.
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 6, 2017 Posted December 6, 2017 AR assemblies in general are sensitive to oil and grease intrusion. I doubt it's a major design flaw or anything. I'm sure they'll stand behind it.
FishKilla Posted December 6, 2017 Author Posted December 6, 2017 They said they would attempt to correct it or offer me an upgrade. Not sure what their going to upgrade me too since it's their flagship reel. I guess I'll just take another patriarch but I'd rather have put the money towards a Stella or a steel. I just bought a morum and thought Garcia was my new go-to. Apparently not.
Super User J Francho Posted December 6, 2017 Super User Posted December 6, 2017 Oh, so they offered you a replacement or an upgrade. Poor you. We’re done here. This site is not a venue to air gripes. Your first post was that. You didn’t want the fix, you said you were mad, and wanted to commiserate with anyone else that calls sour grapes. I call ‘em like I see ‘em 1
