NateCatchesFish Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Hey everyone! I ordered a bunch of 3xds during the Tackle warehouse sale this weekend to try as winter baits. I'm a huge fan of the 5xd and wondered what people's opinions on the 3xd are. I'm a big fan of 'finesse cranking' when the water gets cold with small body crankbaits so wanted to hear some opinions. Also picked up some bandits and I know those will wreck em!!! 1 Quote
CroakHunter Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 Following. Just stocked up on 3 and 5xds as well 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 29, 2017 Global Moderator Posted November 29, 2017 The 3XD is a good bait. The body is about half the size of the 5XD, similar in size to a Bandit 100-300 body size if that helps. They get down pretty good for a smaller bait. 1 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 I used to throw them more as a deeper alternative to the wiggle wart . Now with the RK crawler diving about the same I tend to use them more. Still like the size of the 3xd, use the green and red craw. 1 Quote
SWVABass Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 I throw them a lot. Smallmouth love to chew on them here. I usually throw them summer to fall though. Haven't really threw them in the winter. Quote

I love cranking and feel like the smaller profile will be a good bait. And I'll definitely be throwing them year round. Thanks for the input! Quote
npl_texas Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 I'm a big fan of the 3xd. The hooks are garbage so I replace those after the first outing. I usually throw them on rocks in about 10' to dig bottom. Quote
Scarborough817 Posted November 29, 2017 Posted November 29, 2017 i have never thrown them i prefer the lc RTO 2.5 or a dt10 for that depth instead, i know the body is bigger but its just a confidence thing for me Quote

Winter time crank for me from strike king is the 1.5 flat side. I have done pretty good with that, tight wobble and gets down to about 10ft another small crank I like is from lucky strike the freak. DINK WHISPERER Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 I usually upsize in the cold weather and target bigger bites. The smallest i use is the 6xd. Definitely swap the hooks and the nose ring. I use kvd triple grips and owner hyper wire rings. Quote
