NRX- should I be worried?

Will gaps like these cause me problems? It's throughout the rod.

Those look weak for a rod that pricey.  I wouldn't be satisfied at all.

While functionally that may not cause you any issues, I wouldn’t be satisfied with such poor quality on a rod build, especially at that price.  This wrap quality issue on the NRX line is pretty well documented. 

 

I recently read a post on another forum that when Loomis has been asked about these quality issues by a dealer they “consider it within tolerable specs.”  

 

I recently got a new GLX and the wraps are much much cleaner on that rod then what you’ve pictured. But I think the epoxy work could be better on the threads, it doesn’t overlap the threads onto the blank as well as it probably should. But the epoxy work is very neat and clean, and not excessive. 

 

Ultimately you have to decide if you can live with what you’ve received. If not nothing to lose by contacting your retailer to try and resolve it.

Seriously, Eveb though it won't affect performance in the least, on a premium product like that, anything short of stelllar workmanship is unacceptable.

If you want perfection spend the money on a custom biult rod using equal components.

Off the shelf rods are production products subject to variances, it's up to the buyer to reject them. Poor workmanship isn't acceptable.

Send your photo's to G. Loomis co and get thier response, you paid for high quality.

A light color thread on a dark blank is hard enough to keep neat wrapping by hand. Poor choice on the part of a mass producer imo. It's no problem functionally but you're not unreasonable to expect more especially from an expensive rod.

Hmmm...I have a lot of NRX rods and I have yet to look at the thread wrap quality.  I guess I am one who really cares more about functionality over the tightness of the threads.  With that being said, if I do want a rod that has both aesthetics and function, I go to Scott (a.k.a. S.H.FishinSticks) and get a custom made rod.  That is truly only way to get a rod that obtains the look you desire, the workmanship you expect, and the function you need.

Won’t hurt how it fishes at all but is unacceptable to me for a $500 rod.

I have 5 of their rods and I can tell you each one is unique with its flaw but why would a hook keeper affect the performance lol

He did say it's consistent across all the wraps...

 

I agree with sending Loomis pics and expressing your displeasure with the workmanship. On a $100 rod, sure, that's acceptable. $500...? No way, for me at least.

 

I also agree with the sentiment of going custom if you want a perfect rod.
