Need some help and ideas for building my own bait pen for shad. I want to be able to keep them alive overnight. I would be able to keep it in a lake, I just need some ideas on how to build It. I am hoping someone can lead me to a website or video that has a good template to follow or even if someone on here can give me a good idea on what to buy for materials and how to do It.

Thank you!

I hate to be the "google it" guy, but if you google "floating fish pen" the first two links that come up are exactly what you want.

No problem I did some research on the internet and there is a lot of different ways and ideas people have on youtube and other sites. I was just seeing if anyone on here had any insight. The only thing I am worried about with those is the corners. The shad corner themselves in there to their death every time I have put them in a container with corners.

Round net.  I like the pool noodle idea.  I know quite a few kayak guys that use a smaller version to hold the fish while they get ready with the camera.

It has to be round or oval. Like you said, they'll die in no time if the tank has any corners. Most of the big striper guys go for big ovals, look like plastic stock tanks.

Friend of mine lives on a brackish river and keeps pinfish alive in one of those plastic 55 gallon drums. Pumps water directly from the river into the barrel with the overflow going back into the river.

Not exactly sure of the details on the specifics but it may be something you want to consider.

Admittedly pinfish are probably more hardy than Shad but it might work on em.

Just make sure you don't look at them the wrong way, they'll die

Gotta have them for stripers though!
