Just got back from Cincinnati Bass Pro Shops. Since they opened at 6:00 am, I assumed the store would be cleared out by 8:00 am....WRONG!...That place was crazy. Checkout lines were stretched all the way back to the escalator. All I wanted was a spool of line, some bobber stops, and a pack of jig trailers. Not standing in line for that. Then I happened to notice the line in the fishing department had about 5 people in it. Got my stuff and got the heck out of there. I think everyone in Cincinnati is at BPS today.

I've never been shopping on Black Friday. On my way in to work this morning our Wal-Mart didn't seem busier than normal. Kmart was busy there were about 15 cars in the parking lot LOL. And our Meijer (regional store) didn't seem overly swamped and this was at 6:30 prime time for the crazy Black Friday people.

Went out once on Black Friday. It was about 4 yrs ago and I hit Sears and Cabela's. It took me 6 hours just to pick up 4 items. Most of the time was spent in lines. Line to get in, line to get out. Never again.

We were busier than a cat in a litter box at my BPS. I got off at 1:00 pm and we still had lines.

I hear that. Never again. I wasn't even picking up anything on sale. Could have waited. Yesterday , it seemed everyone was buying jeans and flannel shirts .

You might wonder why I did this. Having worked at this BPS for a few years, black Friday was never like this. One hour, or hour and a half, then it was pretty much over. I don't do black Friday shopping ever. I have never liked crowds. Now that even excludes BPS. The first and ONLY sporting event I ever attended, was the first Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran fight, June 20, 1980. NEVER ANOTHER ONE! Took me 2 hours to exit the parking lot after the fight. Hate crowds!

Hootie, a number of years ago I got in line at the Ashland, Virginia BPS at 4:30 for a 5:00 store opening.

The line was at least two blocks long when I arrived at 4:30 and it was growing longer by the minute.

Finally got into the store and bought jeans for the family guys and checked out in the fishing department. No problem. No line at the fishing desk.

The next year I did the same but the word was out on the fishing department so I headed to the hunting section. Waited over an hour to check out.

Not doing that again, ever. Lesson learned.

I did something I promised myself I would never do. I went shopping on Thanksgiving Day. I hate that store are open that day.

Normally my wife and I host Thanksgiving but since my dad is out of commission with a leg injury I had to travel to see him and Field and Stream just happened to be on the way.

It it was a case where I knew what I wanted so I made a beeline there and right to the register. It was a quick in and out operation. They were having a $500 gift card giveaway at 8PM to all that arrived at 6PM so the place was packed. The line to check out wasn’t that bad at 7pm when I was there.

Not something I plan on repeating though.
