After catching upwards of 300 bass, one of the hooks on my megabass vision 110 finally gave up the ghost today.  Looking to replace them now, but I'm not sure weather to get the #4 katsuages or the #5/#6 gamakatsu nano finesse treble.  The hooks on the vision 110 are #6 (I believe) katsuage, but the only size that tw carries is #4, not sure if that is accurate or not.  So do you guys prefer the #4 katsuage, #5 nano finesse, or #6 nano finesse trebles?  Heard really good things about the nanos for jerkbaits but never seen or tried them before.

As long as the hooks don't catch each other while casting, put on whatever size you like, although sometimes a bigger hook can cause a bait to act differently if its a floating or suspending type bait due to heavier hardware.

300 bass is a lot on the stock hooks!  At my last tournament weekend I went through 12 hooks on the same 110 I was using over 4 days.  The spotted bass were vicious though and every single fish seemed to mangle them.

#6 is the stock size, the #4's will be too big.  I would give the Nano Finesse trebles a shot, either #5 or #6 (I've heard they run small, I'd have to see them to be sure).  Thicker hooks like the ST-36's are a bit too beefy for my liking on the 110, whichever replacement you choose make sure it's a light wire.

I use #6 Katsuge still, but it seems to be harder to find them now...I bought them in bulk from MB-USA a couple seasons ago so I still have a decent stock.  I've heard MB-USA doesn't sell them in bulk anymore though.  When I finally run out I plan on using the Nano Finesse trebles as replacements.

It helps that until recently i've been throwing it on a medium powered spinning rod and 8 pound mono, not much for pressure on the hooks.  No aggressive spots or smallies to thrash them either.

Sounds like i'll be picking up some nano's, probably in both #5 and #6.  I like to mess with the hooks on jerkbaits to change the action and how deep they run depending on water temperature, plus I might try them on some topwater and cranks.

I make it a point to remove and save all the Katsuge hooks and split rings off all the MB jerkbaits I break, and then just keep a small box of these parts with me for changeouts and repairs. So far my broken parts inventory has outpaced my replacement needs. Not sure if that's something to be happy about or not :D

IndianaFinesse, I’ve got to agree with Logan that 300 bass on the original, stock hooks is crazy and his recommendations. And given the set up you’re throwing the 110’s on, it’s perfect IMO for throwing the Vision.

Until I dialed in on what to throw my 110’s on, I was putting a lot of pressure on the Katsuages which I eventually had to replace. This was probably due to I had previously only thrown Lucky Craft, which I’m sure you’d agree have beefier hooks.

I believe the Katsuage hooks outbarb design was to prevent the scratching of the thin layer of paint on the 110. I was also concerned heavier hooks might inhibit the action of the 110. I was surprised Tackle Warehouse didn’t have the Katsuages, but I was able to get em on eBay from a vendor in Japan at what I considered a reasonable price. Funny thing is, after replacing a couple hooks I still haven’t needed to replace any other hooks on my 110’s.

The #5 and #6 gamakatsu nano finesse treble hooks showed up on my front porch last week, and I've had them out five or six times now.  So far I've been very impressed, more so than I have been with any other treble hook.  These things are probably the sharpest hook I have ever used and definitely take the least pressure to penetrate, plus they are surprisingly strong given their thin diameter.  They are the slightest bit thicker than katsuages (the difference is hardly noticeable), but the nanos are definitely stronger by a fair amount.  The #5s on the front two hooks and a #6 on the back makes the vision 110 nearly suspend and sink ever so slightly in 40° water (I tested them) at about 1/2" a second.  They do run about 1 size small, #5 nanos are roughly equivalent to most companies #6 treble.

Overall i've been very impressed, they stood the test of two bass over 6 pounds today and did not bend out even a little while tied onto 10 pound mono on a mh casting rod.  I'm going to start (slowly, these things are so darn expensive) swapping all of my topwaters and jerkbaits over to nano finesse trebles, and some of cranks.

Go to Lure Parts Online and buy the VMC 8570 Barbarian Outbarb hooks in the size #6. If you don't already know, VMC makes the Katsuage hooks for Megabass and the outbarb is almost identical, I believe the barb length is the only difference but the hook size and weight are perfect matches.

Thanks, I might use them in the future. For now I think that I actually prefer the gamakatsu nano finesse trebles better than the katsuages though.  See my above post.

Does anyone have a suggestion on split ring size for these?

Size #2  Owner Hyper Wire.

Use whatever trebles you're confident in.

I'll say I am a huge Megabass bait fan but not the trebles.

They all come off right out of the box.

That Out-Barb style hook is no fun in human flesh; not that the others are.

The Braided line - yank the treble hook out trick  . . .

Ya not so much.

Just say'in.

If you email megabass itself they send free hooks.  I got 2 free packs when mine wore out from them

Helpful. Ty.  But did you happen to mean “VMC 8570” (not 8750)?   I want to make sure I get the correct hooks.

I for one like the hooks but they do tend to get dull quickly despite being very sharp at first.  I have used the VMC hooks mentioned above and they are pretty much the same.  I have too have suffered from getting the hooks stuck in my fingers.  It was stuck so deep and in such way I couldn't push it through. I had to rip it out.  It was mighty painful.
