I was younger...(much) and I would go fishing in the mornings before everyone would gather around.  Back then (45 plus years ago) I lived in Oregon and you used to be able to catch steelhead in the streams in November until genetics were changed.  Now it's much later.  Thanksgiving now is a blessed day with kids and grandkids and friends.....my oh my.  Wonder if I'll get to teach them bad habits.....

Thanksgiving is usually a good day to be on the water because so few other people are :)

I am sure you be a positive influence in thier lives and be thankful grandpa moved to be with them. It's time to spoil them and share all your stories about how green Oregon was and Steelhead jumped into you creel.

God bless the children and have a wonderful family Thanksgiving day.

Oh man. I'm not exactly old (34) to be exact. But I remember going out with my uncle thanksgiving morning deer hunting then fishing at my memaws pond after. And then on Friday the whole community practically would come together and have a flag football game. The good ole days

Its been a tradition for me and my middle son to fish on thanksgiving. We have missed maybe a few times or went hunting instead.

We usually have our family get - together after 5 , so we get off the water or out of the woods by 3 or so , then have time to get home and help with the preparations.

I made the mistake of smoking a turkey a few years ago and now my early morning thanksgiving fishing trip has been nixed.  Oh well, it is still fun to cook the bird and hang out with family :)

I basically fish every day. Lol. The pond is freezing over so now my Senkos and shaky heads just sit on top and I'm like whyyyyyyy as I keep casting to no avail.

Put a 2 1/2 oz tungsten on that joker and crash on through!

When I was a kid Thanksgiving meant hunting in the morning and a turkey dinner (whether we killed one or not). After that a backyard football game and falling asleep on the living room floor. Good times.

All these stories on flag football...that would be fun.  I tried cleaning up the back yard all at once after a storm last Saturday hit here pretty good.  Left a tree over the fence.  Oh....boy....this body...even though I'm not in bad shape really protested on Wednesday ..... today maybe a little slow too.  Gosh...the ol brain sometimes just doesn't give me a clue to be careful.   Sheesh....thought they were supposed to work together!!

I’ll be going to my in-laws today, they have a small stocked pond on their property. This will be the second year in a row that I eat lunch and run out to the pond and fish it for a few hours until it’s time to drive home. My wife’s family rarely engages me in much conversation, as they can be a little too self-centered around their own lives—so I just quietly excuse myself and they never miss me.

If if I could, I’d just make a plate and bring it out there with me.
