Spybaits for LM

Are spybaits more of a smallmouth bait or do you guys do well with them on LM also? And I know they work best in clear water but are they worth fishing in semi to stained water?

I use the gancraft screwbait at night and got some fish on it. Iv also had good luck with the evergreen propmagic 95. That thing wobbles real good on the fall. Both of these can be fished on heavier line (i use 14lb mono) and can be burned

Had good luck last June with the Arishi Spinbait on post frontal largemouth that wouldn't eat anything else in 6-8 fow. Going to try a Duo and Lucky Craft screw pointer next year. No complaints with the Arishi, I have like 6 now. It was super easy to fish, similar to a countdown rap, slow steady retrieve. Just trying the other brands because of the bait monkey. 

 

No idea on stained water, but read an article recently that 2-3 feet of vivibility is go time. Going to try it around docks in stained water next year that gets pounded by other fisherman.

Think sound & vibration as the main attraction rather than visibility.

Yep, the underwater prop puts out pressure waves the bass detects with it's lateral line nerves. The pressure waves travel a long distance underwater, bass being a curious predator swims towards the lure and finds a minnow swimming slowly, easy meal.

Did you know that underwater prop lures pre date surface prop lures?

The Dowagjaic minnow was a "spy bait" that dates back in the early 1900's.

Awesome, thanks Tom! Didn't even think of that. Didn't think that small of a prop would do much in stained. Had it in my head for some reason that they were just a visual attraction. And most people say it's a clear water bait correct?

I agree with @WRB I also think that the blades help to give it the swimming action. I have fished the duo spybait so far, in decent visibility.  I've only picked up white bass on it so far, I'm sure I'll figure out large and smallmouth soon again.
