Curado 70 / scorpion or diawa zillion sv tw

I have a question about the reel size difference and the braking system comparison between the curado 70 /scorpion 71 and the diawa zillion sv tw. I am wanting to purchase a couple reels for pitching lures up to 3/4 oz. Has anyone had both of these reels? Could you please give me your opinion of which one was the better of these options. I really appreciate the help. Thank you in advance.

I've owned all 3. I still own the Diawa but sold the Shimanos. The Zillion cast further and is about impossible to backlash, makes it great for skipping. My only complaint is I sometimes manage to turn the magnetic brake a couple clicks, probably while fighting a fish or something. It's very noticeable the next cast though so I fix it and continue on.

Same here: Moved from Shimano to the Daiwa Zillion SV TWS. Very smooth reel, but I agree that the magnetic brake dial does turn easy and I don't realize it until after the cast. Has led to a few unpleasant back lashes. When things are set correctly, awesome reel. I plan on picking up another this Spring.

Thank you guys. I did as much research as I could on the web. Bass pro shop is about two hours away.  Between my work schedule and family time I can only go there once a year. I started upgrading my rods selection last winter. I have a long way to go.

scorpion 70 for finesse, zillion  for the rest. own the zillion not the scorpion, looked into it heavily tho, great reel might cop soon

Honestly you will probably be paying more getting the gear from BPS. With Black Friday sales and EBay you could save at least 20% off if you purchase the items online. Plus you don't have to drive hours to BPS so you save both time and money.

I've got a scorpion 71 and love it. Great reel for finesse stuff under 1/2 ounce. I don't put a ton of weight behind the "impossible to backlash" talk with the Daiwa. If I backlash once a trip, I can fix it and be okay. Keep in mind I have about 15 shimano reels and 0 Daiwa, so I have no first hand experience with Daiwa reels.

Mine was mostly in reference to while skipping docks. Fishing several lakes like LOZ, Table Rock, and several smaller local lakes with lots of docks, being able to skip a baitcaster without worrying about bad backlashes all the time is great. In open water situations backlashes shouldn't be a big concern with any reel that is set properly. My Zillion outdistanced the Scorpion and Curado 70 as well with baits down to 1/4oz though, not by a huge distance, but noticeable. I've been a Shimano guy my whole life until the last few years, but I'm really glad I gave the Diawa a try and plan on getting more in the future.

I was gonna sell my curado 70 many times for the favor of another daiwa sv105 but end up with another scorpion 70 instead. It one of those love/hate thing. The 70 is not smooth compare to chronarch 50e or sv105 and kind of gearly a little bit but for distance I think I get more with 70 down to 1/4 (compare with sv105 and tatula CT type R).

I have no choice but to stay with 70 becuz I like small reel and I don't want to buy another 50e (my favorite of all)

I really appreciate the info. I can understand the good points of each reel. It really seems to come down to personal preference. Since you guys talked me into it I will order the diawa and a shimano. I'm going to order two of the same megabass rod one for each reel. Not for sure yet which rod type.

What techniques do you want to use the rods for and do you have a budget in mind?  There have been some great deals to be had on the Orochi XX line lately. 

 

I suspect im going to be adding a Zillion SV TW to my stable soon as well.

I have the 9.1:1 version of the Zillion SV TW and don't like it much at all.  It might just be a due to the faster gearing, but it feels looser and gear-y-er then the other Daiwa's (sv105, sv103, Alphas FC, Steez ltd sv, PX68) that I have owned.  I also find it less comfortable than the other reels, but that is obviously super subjective.  At MSRP I wouldn't even consider another one and honestly I have had so much luck finding deals on used higher-end reels that I don't there is any reason to pick the Zillion SV over a used Steez or an NIB Tatula SV.

I'm going to purchase the aldebaran 50 and try the smaller size shimano. That way I can give a smaller shimano reel a try.

I agree. I'm so close on price to the steez sv tws that I will just pick the steez instead of the zillion. There is also alot of replacement parts to justify the money spent on the reel. So within the next month I will have the steez and an aldebaran. The one that feels better pitching I will use for that and the other I will use for a jig casting reel.
