Senkos are full of salt and I think most 5 inchers came in at 3/8. But more likely I would be using a Structure Bug or Rage Craw that are probably closer to 1/4 oz. But your point is valid and a 3/4 oz jig with trailer should come out close to 1 oz overall. And that’s why I posted this thread because I’m in that “Tweener” zone between a MH and a Heavy rod. Then there’s the variance between rod manufacturers, and how one company is more/less stiff or tippy than another. So I’m all ears when it comes to what people are using. We are “ice up” here in the North in the next week or so... after that I probably have to wait until May to try out a new rod and hope it’s the right one. ...or maybe I need to make a trip to “Cajun” land and try some open water this winter I was in your shoes about a year ago, I was fishing a mh and switched to a heavy. Not because of the lure weight but because of the cover I was fishing. Laydowns, stick ups, and grass. We don't have much hard bottom here, so it's rare I throw a jig in wide open clean water. Quote
waymont Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 Dobyns Fury 6'6" heavy rod would suit you well. It's in your budget and a great rod. Quote

All Megabass rods distributed by Megabass USA in the US and sold by authorized retailers carry a full warranty with Megabass USA. That includes the entire line of Orochi XX rods, as well as the Levante series, and 2017 USDM Destroyer series. https://megabassusa.com/megabass-three-year-rod-warranty/ Megabass USA is located in California where I live and every local retailer that sells them tells me it takes several months to get a authorization to replace a rod without going though the 60% replacement fee. That isn't a bad deal but it isn't good customer service. I like to be able to talk to the rod manufacturer or a local represntitive. Megabass does offer a good warranty. Back to the topic, adding a trailer to a jig doesn't add 3/8 oz to the casting weight, maybe 1/8 to 1/4 oz depending on size of the soft plastic and if it's salt loaded. My jig rods are rated 1/4-1 1/4 oz, 5 power and 3/8- 1 1/2 oz, 6 power. I prefer heavy fast action jig rods but they are over the OP's $200 budget. Tom Quote

It's light, sensitive and is a true fast action with plenty of backbone. I almost exclusively use it for T-rigs and Jigs but I'd be comfortable frogging or light punching with it too. It can be found for the lower end of your budget too. I’ll add another vote for the Tatula, it’s what I throw my heavier jigs on as well. I would also look into the Powell Endurance Rods. They don’t get a ton of talk but they are extremely sensitive and have plenty of backbone Quote

This was all incorrect information regarding warranty about a company without every going through the process and then saying someone said. Definitely not the case at all. I have seen new rods replaced within 1-2 weeks free through the Megabass USA warranty. Great people. TW has a disclaimer on Megabass rods that all returns must go though Megabass, the only rod mfr'd that has the disclaimer because TW doesn't want to be in the middle of any disputes. Peace, Tom Quote
