CrazedL.IFisherman Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 My best friend and I bought a semi v hull boat finally a few months back and finally got her onto the water today, she is all ready for tournaments and everything. We were accustomed to using an old town canoe for many years without a fish finder or outboard motor even. Well with this new tourny boat of ours we have a fish finder and I printed out the proper manual that goes along with the humminbird but have two important questions. I looked throughout the manual but as far as i know its not stated in there. The transducer is located on the very back of our boat so im not quite sure where the fish displayed on the screen are located in the water. Like as they pass on the graph, due to the transducer mounted on the back are the fish that pop up on the fish finder actually in the water behind the boat? And lastly a minor question are the fish that are on the screen that are shown roughly how far away in distance? We were trying to guessimate these things all day long while learning fish finders for the first time, sorry if i posted this in the wrong location, please any answers would mean a huge deal and thanks again Jon Quote
G3-Basser Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 There are others that can answer your question in much more detail, but by the time you see the fish on the screen you are well past them, especially if the transducer is mounted on the rear of the boat. You can get a feel for how quickly things are going by if you troll a heavy bait or crankbait over some known structure (shallow ridge, point or brush). Watch the graph and then feel the bait as it crashes into what you see on the screen. Have fun with it! -J Quote
Garnet Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 Yes your cone angle is straight down from your xduser and then theres a delay until you have usable info on your screen. The new models are way better. Look for chart speed and increase, this will get the info up quicker and also off the screen quicker. You can biase your xduser to the left or right on your trolling motor so you no structure and fish will allways be to 1 side. Garnet Quote
