hoosierbass07 Posted November 13, 2017 Posted November 13, 2017 Some time in late December or early January I want to go to my first ever NBA game, at Indy to watch the Pacers and whoever is playing them. I've never been to an NBA game before and really not a big fan of basketball but still, I want to go and have fun. So, my biggest questions are - where should I buy tickets and what seats should I go after? I've done a quick look and it seems like there are some cheap seats in the $20-40 range and seats in the $100-150 range and of course more expensive seats. I'm willing to spend up to $150 a ticket (Me and another person will be going). But, can I enjoy the game if I pick on of the cheaper high level seats? Anyway, just looking for some good advice on going to an NBA game and having fun. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted November 13, 2017 Super User Posted November 13, 2017 In my opinion, the seats to avoid are the ones behind either basket. A horrible angle to watch a basketball game. Higher level seats about even with center court aren’t bad at all. The Pacers host the Cavs on January 12th. You’d get to see the best player in today’s game LeBron James, as long as he doesn’t sit out for “rest” which he’s been known to do. 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 13, 2017 Super User Posted November 13, 2017 I have been to about 5 or 6 modern basketball arenas and other than right behind the basket, there usually isn't a bad seat in the house. My preference is always center court or close to it but about 20 or so rows up. My next preference is 2nd level and about 5 rows up in the center areas or off to one side. Up a level the more corner type seats are still pretty good and you can see all the action. As far as tickets go, just search everywhere and look at the fees too because with fees a lot of good priced seats really aren't. Also don't forget to look at the pacers site itself because a lot of times they will still have single game seats available for a decent price. Don't forget to factor in parking cost as well. 1 1 Quote
Super User Fishing Rhino Posted November 13, 2017 Super User Posted November 13, 2017 Haven't been to a game in decades, so these seats might not even exist in todays arenas. On the chance that they do, avoid the "obstructed view" seats. These seats were generally behind the support columns that existed in most if not all of the buildings back in the day. They certainly existed in the late Boston Garden. 1 Quote
Super User J._Bricker Posted November 13, 2017 Super User Posted November 13, 2017 My daughters took me to a game a couple years ago for my birthday. For some reason, the tickets were hard to come by and we ended up behind one of the baskets. As with most arenas, there probably isn’t a bad seat in the house watching the game being played at a high level. But IMO, always get the best seats you can afford. The one thing I wished the three of us had the night of the game but didn’t, earplugs.... Hope you have a great time and the Pacers play well. 1 Quote

I actually went to a game in boston while i was up there, wasn't the sixers unfortunately, and asked for an obstructed view seat just so i could say I did lol I didn't really care about the teams other than hating boston. It was more about going to the garden. Quote
CroakHunter Posted November 14, 2017 Posted November 14, 2017 Went to a few pacers game about 10 years ago give or take. Literally sat at the top of conseco fieldhouse. Wasn't bad though because I knew most of the players so it was easy to keep track of them. We watched the bulls, cavs and spurs play the pacers. 1 Quote
Super User Sam Posted November 14, 2017 Super User Posted November 14, 2017 Used to go see the 76ers play in Philly a long time ago. If you sit close to the court you will see how violent the game really is. And the refs let them play after they mug each other. I know it is costly, but try to get as close to the court as you can. You will be surprised at the speed, strength and soft touch the pros have, all wrapped into one bundle of excitement. Let us know about the game after you go. 1 Quote

It really is amazing when you watch any pro sports game in person. The talent level and speed of the game is ridiculous. I have been to a bunch of NFL games and the one time i sat in the end zone and basically had the QB perspective. It was only then did i realize just how fast things happen. It was awesome!!! this post is making me want to go see the sixers play up in MSG on Christmas day.... Quote

Fly, the difference between high school, college and the pros is speed. We can't notice the difference on TV, but you can in person. Just watch those defensive backs and you will see a lot of speed. As for running backs, they don't slow down when they get hit. It is all about speed once you hit college. Speed and strength coupled with intelligence on what to do in what situations that come upon you so fast in the pros. 1 Quote
Chance_Taker4 Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Closest NBA team to me is the Cavs. So I have to pay top dollar for the nose bleeds. But when I do go I try to sit high for the entertainment value. I have more fun sitting with the rowdy drunk fans than down low with the "I'm just hear for the game" fans. That's why I love hockey every fan in the arena are rowdy and drunk. Quote
Loomis13 Posted November 28, 2017 Posted November 28, 2017 For basketball games I like sitting in the upper deck, preferably near the front of the upper deck. I like to be able to see everything open up! 1 Quote
