I bought a float tube once but never used.  After investigating I determined that you really need to go with a partner.  Going alone is just asking for trouble.  Read some horror stories about people drowning while float tubing alone.

Wind can also be a major problem (blow you clear across the lake).

I have a 8'6" pontoon...waterskeeter type boat. inflatable pontoons...Worth the $250 i paid for it, Gonna sell it though.... Its alot safer and easier to fish from than a float tube in my opinion in ponds and slow moving streams....wouldnt trust it anywhere else.

Trying to use one of those around here would just be asking for it.  Cottonmouth's DO NOT have a sense of humor!!

I have had and have various tubes.  I have one of the newer pontoon style and that is my prefered boat.  I have about 3 of the older "caddis" brand round tubes that my buddies have to use now that I have the new pontoon style.  The one I purchased has a TM mount on the back, and it can move you!  Just don't fall out - it doesn't have a kill switch!

I like the pontoon version cause it keeps your arse out of the water, puts you higher in the water for better visability, higher in the water for better hook sets, higher in the water for better casting.  One neg related to being so high is the wind takes it toll on the boat a lot more.  But with fins on you can hold pretty well in medium winds.

The round style are fine, you can catch plenty of fish out of them and they are less expensive typically.

That is my .02 great way to get off the bank and enjoy some solitude and fish how you want on your on accord.
