cadman Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 So, I asked this question in another thread, but I don't want to hi-jack it with a few more questions. I currently use G Loomis NRX rods 803C for my jig fishing and really like it. With that said, I would like to try a St Croix Legend Extreme in a crankbait rod. Mainly for cranking 200-300 Bandits, #5 and #7 Shad Raps, Husky Jerkbaits and occasionally a 3/8 oz Rattle Trap. Would a Legend Extreme model LXC68MHF fit this bill. It's a 6'-8" rod MH, Fast action. I am not a tall person and don't like long rods. I'm not looking for other brands unless it's a G Loomis. Thanks for any help in advance. Quote
RichF Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 That wouldn't be my choice for cranking. The Legend Xtremes, like all St Croixs, run a little on the stiffer side (compared to most other brands). I have the LXC70MHF and use it for skipping 3/8 to 1/2 oz jigs. It's got solid power for a medium heavy. The LXC72MM would be much better suited for your baits but if you don't want a rod that long, the LXC68MF would work pretty well. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted November 9, 2017 Super User Posted November 9, 2017 If you're going to throw #5 Shad Raps, you're going to want a ML powered rod, or a softer M power. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted November 9, 2017 Super User Posted November 9, 2017 If you want a crankbait rod you need a moderate action rod. The only blanks made in MM or MHM in the legend extreme are longer that what you prefer. My suggestion is to get a builder to make you one by cutting the blank to your length requirements. Your other choice is to utilize a 7 foot rod in the Avid line in MM or MHM. Quote
