Big Swimbait Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 I try all of the above. But if I am not getting bit, I think outside of the box. A single tail Rage grub, a 4" finesse worm or a Super Fluke all on a regular jig. My theory is that maybe they are feeding on bait fish instead of craws. Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 8, 2017 Super User Posted November 8, 2017 The Pig & jig was the most popular jig combo, the pig being Uncle Josh #11 pork frog for several decades. As bass anglers moved away from the messy single color pork rind trailers to soft plastics the #11 frog was duplicated in soft plastic and became known as a "chunk". Soft plastic chunks that copied the pork version aren't very effective compared the original movements of the pork frog a sales fell off rapidly. Today the chunk is still around but most have evolved to have flapping claws and it's another term loosing it's identity. The original #11 UJ pork frog catches big bass as good today as it ever did, few anglers use it. My personal favorite jig trailers are pork L3, L4 type lizards, frogs and tadpoles that I make and not soft plastic. Pork trailers unfortunitly are a thing of the past, unless you can find a few jars in tackle stores or on line. I am the last generation of the pig & jig. Tom Quote

primetime Posted November 9, 2017 Posted November 9, 2017 Zoom Critter Craw, Rage Menace, Curly tail grub, finesse worm or half a worm with a paddle tail or cut tail etc...I am recently in love with the Big hammer style shad tails, which have a good kick like a GYB Swim Senko. I have a tray of baits that I purchased in bulk because they looked awesome years ago. Turns out they are the best selling swimbaits in Europe for Zander which is like a walleye. They have a super soft plastic, segments like the lake fork magic shad which tapers kind of fast from fat to thin with a t style tail like a big hammer only a bit thinner like a swim senko but long. Kropto Relax swim shads made in Europe and imported to the USA. I believe a guy on Ebay still sells them, it is a better version than any other shad style swimbait imo, the 4" is smaller like a big hammer since they measure the length of the tail into the overall size, the 2.5" are a good bit smaller than a 3" sassy shad, the 4" is perfect on a jig or jighead. Hard to texas rig them, need an open hook but the bait is a killer for any type of fishing. It looks amazing as a trailer and their is no other bait I am aware of sold in America that is similar. Never felt that plastic on any other soft bait, not hand poured, feels spongy, if you see them buy them since they are not that expensive. http://fishinglifestyle.net/2012/02/relax-kopyto-a-legendary-soft-bait-review/ Quote https://www.pecheur.com/en/gb/buy-soft-lure-relax-kopyto-4-l-laminated-pack-of-5-84078.html Quote Quote
