Finesse Fishing with Ike book

Anyone read it and have an opinion? This is one option for me or more fishing tackle in place of the book as a Christmas gift. Trying to figure out which would help me out more lol.

I have the Ike finesse book, I think it's a good read.  He gets very thorough with each technique discussed, as well as locations to fish.  I'd recommend it

I LOVED the book. Before reading it I only owned baitcasting gear and fished traditional bass baits. After reading the book I sold all of my rod and reels and tackle and went 100% finesse. It was the most important moment in my fishing "career". The book is an easy read; gives the basics on finesse techniques (and then goes a bit more in depth) in an easy to read and informative way. The book is a few years outdated now; it doesn't include Ned Rigs and Neko Rigs but it's still an awesome book. This to me was the most defining fishing book I have ever read. I have reread the book about 10 times now and it seems like I pick out something new every time I read it. So I definitely say "go for it" and buy the book. You should certainly not be disappointed.

I have not read his book but I do have his Finesse fishing DVD and watch it multiple times a year. I always find something new to learn every time I watch it.

I think the book is a good idea, especially being from a place where water freezes.  Once you have basics of finesse down, you can get really creative with it.

I'd also second the above on this finesse DVD.  It's a little dated, but as much as Ike can act, well - like Ike, he's an amazing teacher.

Ike unfortunately is a polarizing figure to many. I happened to catch an instagram live feed of him talking fishing with some guys at icast, and he was great, related to them and just seemed like a great down to earth guy.

 

Have also heard from fans who have waited to talk with him after a weigh in and get an autograph that he is very generous with his time when it comes to the fans.

 

He also know a bit about fishing too:)

I would consider adding Don Iovino's book Finesse and the Sonar Connection, dated but good basic info, TW has it.

Anytime you can purchase a book to learn new techniques, etc. you will strengthen your bass fishing as opposed to buying baits.

 

Ike is a great bass fishing industry ambassador. I suggest one day you try to make one of his seminars. Worth every penny.

I've heard a lot of stories of how he is a stand up guy.  I know some think he's a little over the top, but I've always been an Ike fan.  He also is genuinely into getting the younger crowd into fishing and growing the sport, which is awesome. 

 

His other book, fishing on the edge, is pretty good too. There isn't as much fishing tips in that one, it's more so his story of becoming a pro, but I enjoyed reading it. It gives a different perspective of him.

I think where Ike shines is in the education aspect.  He writes simply, and from the heart.  His seminars very informative, and he's a dynamic speaker.  Nothing like the intense on the water Ike.

The fact that Ike is one of the best tournament anglers of this decade and proven his skills by winning at several different venues doesn't excuse his behavior.

Ike has had some bonehead moments to be sure, but watching some of these guys lately, they get more excited over a 2lb bass than I did over a 45" Musky lol. I honestly just think it is a case that some guys are wired to be hyper competitive and like them or not there antics are part of the deal for some of them, take that away and they would lose their edge.  Then you have guys like Rick Clunn that seem very mellow, not sure how he was when he was dominant. 

 

Thanks for for the Don Iovino book reference. Had discounted it because of the only review I saw. Did find an old post of yours that talked about it too, it will be added to the list.

 

Want to up my finesse game this year because the time of year we fish a clear water vacation lake, it sees multiple fronts in a week and the fish are usually skittish.

I am not bashing Ike, he is the polar opposite of Aaron Martens, both are at the top of pro tournament bass fishing. It's hard to overlook Ike's behavior because it's in your face and I can't think of any other pro bass angler who comes close to him in that regard.

Looks like I'm going track down this book.  I have to officially blame Ike that I get hawg-wild and crazy shouting at the top of my lungs, hooting and hollering out loud when I  hook into and bring in a pig just like he does.

 

As introverted as I am, it's so uncharacteristic of me to partake (and yes, it feels so good -- yell, fist pump, shout, double-fist pump, holler, sho-ryu-ken, lol) in such a primal and exciting form of expression when you land a big one.  I actually came with a word to describe this that I've used in stories and posts I've written.  It's called "Iacnaelli-ing it."

This is exactly why he is one of the very few who don't have to cash a check and can still support their family. 

 

Not saying I could do it, but you have to admit it's worked for him. Not to mention he's done what nobody else has.

I have the Ike finesse fishing dvd and he is a different person in it.  His finesse dvd and the Kvd spinnerbait ones are the best learning videos I have ever watched.  Most videos sold you are just watching someone fish.

Exactly! It's content that matters, not who, or how they act.  It's just a book and a DVD - and they happen to have some useful info.

Do you guys know if the DVD is still available? I do have the KVD spinnerbait one and agree it is really good. Kind of liked the worming with Woo Daves DVD too.

I'll agree to that, but on the contrary, you and I have never caught a 2 lb. fish that could get us a $25k+ check either.

There is a special feeling you get when you stick a major upgrade fish in the last remaining minutes of a tournament.  I don't go Ike, but I have been known to throw a high five and a Rick Flair "WOOOOOO!"
