So I started fishing tournaments about a year and a half ago. Nothing serious, I'm coach and teacher so for a 1/3 of the year I'm too busy to fish much at all.

So the question I have for you much more experienced folks is..

Is there a benefit of having all your set-ups the same?

For example. Would it be of benefit if I had set-ups of 5 Tatula SV with different GR for my needs and 5 Kistler Rods matched up with different lengths and actions for needs as well? Or would my various brands of rods and reels be fine?

If you have a certain company you like then nothing wrong with using all the same brand. However, there's no real benefit to it. I use mainly all *** because i really like them. Rods I'm all over the board with brands. It's all about getting a setup that fills your needs.

The only benefit would be if the rod and reel company was sponsoring you. I have a bunch of different rods I stick with shimano reels because I’m comfortable with them and used to them but I wouldn’t mind trying out Diawa.

Some companies don't even supply certain lengths and actions. Example, no sizes under 7 ft in a medium heavy. Or dont offer crankbait rods.

If you like the reel form factor, then sure. Otherwise, I generally mix and match things. No single company has everything I want.

I use the same reel ( with centrifugal brakes) with different gear ratios for everything, because how the reel fits my hand when I palm it is important to me. Rods, I'm all over the place. I don't think there is consistency up and down most  lines. Action and balance are what I key on. I will "customize" a handle all sorts of ways, including replacing the whole thing at times if I like the rod otherwise. My advise is go with what works for you, and the only way to figure that out is to go fishing. [place my first Led Zep 4 LP here].
