nd1225 Posted November 5, 2017 Posted November 5, 2017 So I started fishing tournaments about a year and a half ago. Nothing serious, I'm coach and teacher so for a 1/3 of the year I'm too busy to fish much at all. So the question I have for you much more experienced folks is.. Is there a benefit of having all your set-ups the same? For example. Would it be of benefit if I had set-ups of 5 Tatula SV with different GR for my needs and 5 Kistler Rods matched up with different lengths and actions for needs as well? Or would my various brands of rods and reels be fine? Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted November 6, 2017 Posted November 6, 2017 If you have a certain company you like then nothing wrong with using all the same brand. However, there's no real benefit to it. I use mainly all *** because i really like them. Rods I'm all over the board with brands. It's all about getting a setup that fills your needs. Quote
Super User burrows Posted November 7, 2017 Super User Posted November 7, 2017 The only benefit would be if the rod and reel company was sponsoring you. I have a bunch of different rods I stick with shimano reels because I’m comfortable with them and used to them but I wouldn’t mind trying out Diawa. Quote
Bruce424 Posted November 7, 2017 Posted November 7, 2017 Some companies don't even supply certain lengths and actions. Example, no sizes under 7 ft in a medium heavy. Or dont offer crankbait rods. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 7, 2017 Super User Posted November 7, 2017 If you like the reel form factor, then sure. Otherwise, I generally mix and match things. No single company has everything I want. 2 Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted November 7, 2017 Super User Posted November 7, 2017 I use the same reel ( with centrifugal brakes) with different gear ratios for everything, because how the reel fits my hand when I palm it is important to me. Rods, I'm all over the place. I don't think there is consistency up and down most lines. Action and balance are what I key on. I will "customize" a handle all sorts of ways, including replacing the whole thing at times if I like the rod otherwise. My advise is go with what works for you, and the only way to figure that out is to go fishing. [place my first Led Zep 4 LP here]. 1 Quote
