Hi guys,

I am looking for a great head light that I can use for night fishing. I have currently one of these here. But i am not very happy with the quality (brightness, size of light circle and the duration) of the light. I mean it is decent for 24 USD but I am looking for something better.

Any thoughts/recommendations?

I dont know the brand but I use one I bought at wal mart  that clips on the bill of a hat . It also has a red light that I use a lot  . Then I'll keep a  brighter light or two  in my pocket .

Been night fishing for a long time.

Have used many models and have settled on the Streamlight 61051 Trident Super-Bright LED Multi-Purpose Headlamp.

It's light, adjustable, has a green light option (doesn't kill night vision) & perhaps most importantly, is very easy to operate effectively with one hand.

Energizer Performance LED Cap Light, 30 Lumens

I use it to retie only so white doesn't bother me, if I we flying a F22 Raptor I might be concerned.

Big fan of the Black Diamond Spot, very easy to adjust intensity/mode, and has a red setting to preserve your night vision.  It might be overkill if the only thing you will ever use it for is night fishing.

Having done night fishing in my younger days I highly recommend a light with either a red or green lens. The bugs can get really bad with a white light. The days of the old coleman lantern covered with bugs are over for me.

It is actually hard to go wrong with headlamps.

What is important is the ability vary the strength and time it will run at various lumens.

I also need blue or red in addition to the white, as getting my night vision back takes a bit of time

The most important thing that I was looking for was to get one that is truly waterproof.  I had a number of decent headlamps, but had trouble with them after a while due to water intrusion.  I keep mine in my kayak crate when not in use, so its generally exposed.  I've used this one all year and been very satisfied...especially for the price.  I've only changed batteries once even though I've probably fished over a hundred hours after dark (not all with the light on, obviously.)

I would ask the diehard flashlight guys on candlepowerforums.com, they'll hook you up with something great.

If you don't have a charger for 18650's or cr123's you'll probably want a light that runs off a common battery size, like AA or AAA.

Actually, after looking around for a bit a zebralight h53 would probably suit you very well. I'd still recommend asking the CPF guys though.

They have a red LED version as well.
