Noticed at my local bass pro I can pair an pro q 2 rod and reel together for $119. Seems like a good deal.... I'm in the market for a new frog combo and wanted to see if anyone has any feedback.

I've heard somewhere that the reels with the combos aren't always as good, but they'll pull a lefty reel off the shelf for me if I wanted and match it to a rod.

are the new reels any good?

I am a Shimano lover, but 5 years ago walked into one of BPS's big sales and picked up a ProQualifier on sale for $78 just for kicks.  I put Sufix 832 50lb on it and used it for frog fishing each year and was really impressed with the reels performance.  I would describe it as a real husky, dependable little reel with which I never had a problem.  I cleaned and lubed it myself and found nothing mysterious about the internals, pretty much the baitcast reel arrangement.  Last year the lure of the Chronarch MGL came calling and I was given $50 for it on the reel trade in program.   Would I ever buy another one...in a heart beat.    Great little reel.

Thanks for the input. I ended up nabbing a combo and must say for $119 it's a killer deal. i used it today and caught a few fish and don't think I could have made a better purchase for the price. Hopefully it holds up...

I bought one about six months ago for my son to use, as he had outgrown the zebco spincast he’s used for years. He’s learned to throw it and it’s been a good reel. No complaints so far!

I bought a pro qualifier combo a few years back for 100 dollars . It was well worth it . I saw the new combo on sale for 119 and  the only thing keeping me from buying one is there is no foregrip on the rod . i require one .
