Top shelf trout casting reel

After 40 years of trout fishing it is time to treat myself to the best. Looking for the smoothest small baitcaster that is capable of throwing 1/4 oz spinners and spoons.

I have my eye on Calcutta conquest BFS HG.

Already own 6 tatulas and a chronarch MGL but i want to purchase one of the best.

The man is in Oregon, and I feel like he has trout that would destroy every one of those.

 

The Calcutta BFS is a beautiful reel.  Not sure it has the line capacity you may need. 

 

If money wasn't an object, Megabass Monoblock Speciale Grigio Stone would be my choice.

 

Any of these reels can throw 1/4 spoons with the right rod.

Will just be used for trout in the high lakes- My goal is 5# and i have come real close so if I spend the dough on this setup I will not give up until I have accomplished the mission!

The conquest has a capacity of 50 yards which is more than enough for my application. They are not like a large trout (steel head) in a river which may ended taking you for a ride a few hundred feet downriver.

Hmmmm.... Maybe I should come visit! We have some nice trout in the high lakes that can exceed 5# and then we have steelhead which are trout that live in the ocean and return to the rivers to spawn. They can reach 20+ pounds but average 6-10#. Nothing funner to catch then a red hot steelhead fresh from the ocean! They go absolutely ballistic and run all over the river going airborn trying to escape!

They basically do the same thing here, just substitute The Great Lakes for the ocean.We get a few over 20, but not many.  My personal best is 18 lbs.  We also have kings, coho (silver salmon), Atlantics, and huge browns.  So much fun in winter.  Helps it go by.

I have 15lb Seaguar Smackdown braid on it. It has .006 diameter. I just use 6lb flouro leader on it.

I agree.  I figured being from Oregon, he would be dealing with much bigger, sea run fish.  That's not the case.

I have plenty of other reels for the ocean going salmon and steelhead in the area but am wanting a top shelf "tiny" reel for high lake trout fishing. The days of the zebco and the ugly stick are becoming just a fading memory.......

Best bang for your dollar would be an alphas sv at around 220 bucks. I have a few and there very nice and can handle the lighter baits.  I picked up a zonda spool for mine the deeper one and it tosses a bait a country mile.  Its not as good on the very light weight baits but above a 1/4 it launches them.  The hedgehog comes with both a light weight spool and the deeper one i got for my reel besides just looking the bees knees.

How would that compare to a tat sv or chronarch mgl which i already own?

I may be over thinking this as they do just fine but I wanted to own a true top of the line caster that would work well for a 1/4 oz spinners. Life is short and one can never have to many reels.

Well it should be smaller in size and lighter depending on which version of alphas you get.  It would also look a lot better depending on which version you get.  I love external cast controls which the tat has but i dont know about the other.  Did you look at the hedgehog or any of the other zonda 68 models.  The one for sale in this thread is my favorite http://www.tackletour.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=76269

The green is soooo sweet.  They also have an orange red one...

The purple one is a custom paint to look like another reel and is based on the steez also one of the top...

Beware the dark side as it will take you over...

sooooooooo back to the original question- Anyone that has a bfs hg that can vouch for it being a INCREDIBLE reel for throwing 1/4 oz spinners?

Or am I wrong in my wishing to own this reel? I cannot see myself using it for anything thing other then the rare trout trip where i throw light spinners into 6'-8' deep water.

I don't have any of the reels you listed, but my curado 70s can throw 3/16 and 1/4 ounce spinners as far as I'd ever want to cast them, with ease and next to no backlashes.  Very small profile, and much more inexpensive than the true bfs reels.
