Micro guide casting issues

So I have a micro guide rod, not saying brand, but it's a 7'1 crank stick with all micro guides. I've been having issues with the setup. I though it may be the reel, but it's my only casting set up that I'm having issues with. One cast will be fine the next it will puff up a bit so to say. Tried adjusting brake, can't get it right, so tomorrow im trying it on a different rod, thanks 

 

btw I'm not new to casting gear i have a full fleet.

I have a few rods with micro guides and haven't had this issue.  My crank bait rod is a kilter helium with micros and no issues.  The only thing i can think of is maybe when retrieving you are getting some slack on the spool some how which is causing the problems.

I use it for cranking so the line is tight when I reel it back in for next cast, with no loops or anything. I have the same reel on another rod and it cats fine no issues.

It's the brand we don't say on here, I got good deal on it and figured I'd try it

I also have one rod with micro guide and never have that kind of problem with any reels I put on it. What kind of reel is this?

That's weird never had any problems with the micro guides on my Duckett could be the rod you're using keep u's posted.

Yea it's most likely me and the reel, I've come to like the tatulas so much I'm probably just not used to have to really fine tune a reel.

There are Mirco guides with no standard definition what a micro guide is.

Most micro guide rods have the first 2 guides 2X the diameter of the rest of the guide train. Ie; 1st guide 5mm, 2nd guide 4mm, the balance 2.5 mm including the tip. 7' rod having between 9 to 10 guides.

Does this define your micro guide rod?

Ok well this rod in particular has 11 guides, and they are all tiny. The first guide from the reel seat is about the same size ID as the tip on my dobyns champion. I tried to send a pic but it says its to big.

The reel worked good today on my 7'6 crucial throwing DD cranks

What kind of line are you using? Perhaps a thin braid?

Measure the ID of the guide ring. Easy to use drills, the blank shift end and just slide it through. If the 1st and 2nd guides are too small ID it causes the line to start whipping hitting the rod blank. IMO the giude 1 & 2 should be at least 4mm or 5/32 ID, preferred 5mm or 3/16ID.

Ok so I measured the first two guides and they are 5/32, and I am using 10lb invisix, this is the only rod I have problems with

So if it isn't a Tatula, what reel do you have on it?  Is it the same brand as the rod?  Is it a new reel to you?  I have quite a few different model reels from several brands.  The A I have from the unmentionable company took some time for me to get use to.  Really like it now, but it did cause me to have more problems at first.  The ergonomics fit me well and I like its looks.  Had a similar problem with an Alphas SV105 only worse, and I think Daiwa reels number just over half of my total.

 

Have you tried the reel on another rod, or another reel on this rod?  That should determine if it is the rod or the reel causing problems.

 

I prefer standard guides, but have several rods with Micro guides.  The Okuma Helios guides are quite small and I have no problem using 12# line on them.

It's the grey 120 dollar model, I have another on different rod and it's fine, I think I'm just not used to micro guides, I put a lews tmb on it and it's a lot better! Thanks for The help

It's a production off the shelf rod so the guide placement should be controlled correctly (about 22" from center of the reel to 1st guide ). I was thinking the guides may have been all the same size, but it sounds like the 1st stripper guide is ok but a little on small side. 

10# FC shouldn't any issue. Have you checked the 1st, 2nd and tip for cracks or being bent down, not standing straight up?? Micro guides have single foot frames and can easily get bent down.

Maybe a rod builder Like DVT can offer you some help?

I put a lews reel on it and it's a lot more manageable. honestly I think it was me not being used to the micro guides, I put the reel off the micro guide rod on a champion 685 cb and it casts a jerkbait fine. Thanks for your help !
