Did the huge blowout of the sv103 kill the value of all other zillion variants.  I wanted a jdream for a long time but never pulled the trigger.  Now the proud owner of sv103's I can't see handing over 350 for a used reel.  Am I missing something or on point.  Seen several jdream for sale and I feel like there stuck because I would not give out more for used over new????

I've got a silly question....Why does resale value of a reel...or any fishing related equipment...matter if it's what you want to use?

We're fishermen, not stock traders...expecting to make money...or even break even...on used equipment seems like a fool's errand to this simple fisherman...

Maybe I missed the point of the OP...but if I wanted something because I felt like it'd improve for fishing...I'd buy it.  if it didn't work out...I'd sell it.

No way I'd worry about potential resale value...

The only zillion variant it hurt was the OG Zillion. The Jdream and TD-Z aren't affected and I'd take either of those over an SV103 and I like the SV103.

Its about trying to understand value.  Not all zillions are created the same and MY HLC is a very nice reel.  Is it better than a jdream i dont know but I dont think it fishes any better than the SV103.  I paid about 250 for it used and i am trying to figure out why the value of a jdream is so much more.  Limited edition paint adds no value when its all scratched up...

J dreams are still going for about $300 in good used condition. Any more than that then I’d pass on it. At one time they were pulling $400-$450 used. That’s long gone though. It’s value lies in it’s limited production. I’ve owned one myself and it’s nothing special to me. It felt rather over braked even when throwing 3/8oz + jigs. Eliminate cosmetics and limited production and I’ll still take a 103 for $100 less. Unless they come out with something mind blowing, they really screwed up by discontinuing that reel.

The one zillion that looks out of control cool that i never owned but always wanted was the blue and red JDM pe special.  Looks a lot like spider man to me and even though i hate red i still love that reel.

That one I’ve never owned but I have heard quite a few people mention it when in regards to one of the best out of the og zillion family. I wish you were a righty. I know of a j dream right now for $200. Has some wear but would be a good way to try it and see if you like it.

The "special" zillion I think is the most fun would be the "A Fishing Ape", a line of reels, lures, and clothing done in collaboration with the Japanese streetwear brand A Bathing Ape, more commonly know as BAPE.

The reel is simple in design, but I really dig the flat green.

Some of the clothing is really cool, but way way too expensive and likely even an XL would be too small to ever fit me.  I might pick up one of the lures though.

Edit, I can't seem to find a large hirez of the zillion.

That spinning reel is nice!!!

There is more than limted paint on the J Dream.  The reel has significant weight reduction bringing it down to 7.55 ounces, a unique lighter weight spool and the frame has a unique mill pattern on the top bar.  I have the Megabass variant, the IP68 and really like the braking profile of the reel.  To me it is the perfect balance of distance and control for a frog and jig reel.  Mine lives on an xx Perfect Pitch and can bomb a frog as far as I care to cast one yet skip a jig under a dock on max mag as well as my SV reels.  I'm a fan of that reel. It's got nothing of substance over the SV 103 other than it's lighter but it is a neat reel and it can hold it's own.

So it weighs more than my HLC?  Not so special

Sorry, if based off only performance then I’ll save the $100. It doesn’t outshine a 103 in that department so for me it would only make sense. I’m not the only person I’ve heard mention the braking either.

Yes, by the slightest hair. The HLC is 7.5 and the JD is 7.58

I was just responding to the huge weight savings as one of the reasons for it being special.  As far as i know the HLC is the lightest version which is one of the reasons i got it, but the JD compared to the hlc is not that special.  There both limited edditions and lighter and have different paint.  I could do without the japan flag, and i like 6.3 reels so its my cup of tea....

One of these sold NIB on TT not too long ago I believe.

Really?  I will have to go look for it, do you remember if the listing had good pictures?  I gotta say, the more I look at the flat green on chrome, the more I am liking it.  If I could find a rod to match it, a SV103 done up as a "bootleg" might be kind of fun.
