About to purchase new rod for spinning setup. It's my first over 20$ setup. I just bought a lews Tournament speed spin 300. There are major sales right now, and these are my choices. I cannot try them out in stores so am looking for some info on them; experience, flaws, overall value.

-Veritas 2.0, 7ft MH-$65 (reluctant because of breaking history)

-Falcon HD, 7ft M-$69.99

-H20 Express Ethos 6'10 MH-$59.99

-Shimano Clarus, 7ft MH-$49.99

In the sub $70 category you're not going to much (if any) difference in quality. If longevity is your only concern, compare the warranty (if even applicable) of each rod and make your choice. I can tell you that the Abu Veritas carries a 3 year warranty, and the Shimano should have a 1 year warranty.

Spend a little more if possible, wait until the Black Friday sales and grab you a Dobyns fury 702 or 703. It will run you about $90.

If you have a DSG near you, stop and look at the Quantum Escalade.  It is a $100 rod on sale for $50.   Picked up one of the casting rods last weekend.  Seems like a lot of rod for the money.  Went back and picked up a second rod to give to my sister-in-law.

I am a fan of Fenwick rods.  Never used a Silverhawk, tho.  Maybe you could find an HMG on sale Black Friday for around $70.  Very nice rods for the money.

I've never used an HD, but have several Falcons including the $100 Originals.  My PB was caught on one.  I've been pleased with my Falcon rods and with their customer service.

EDIT:  Well isn't that something?  The site's software knows more than I do about the English language.  It told me so when I typed out the full words for DSG.  :o

I ended up getting the clarus because it ran me the least amount of money and i heard amazing things about it. For christmas my girlfriend is getting me a dobyns fury djektd. I would like to keep this thread running however because I will need another rod soon and Still am considering the ones i mentioned above. Falcon looks tempting, may save up and buy the bucoo sr. If abu runs a clearance and sells veritas for $32 i will definitely jump on that.

on this note, does anyone know when rod riots at academy are/when the next one will be?

And you heard right.

I had a 2-piece Clarus casting rod and really loved it. Took it with me to Mexico and while you can take it as a hand carry to Mexico, you can’t bring it back with you as a hand carry back to the US. ?? on Alaska. I wasn’t told this and had to leave it with a sister in law. Next trip back a few years later, it was gone*. ?

The clarus line is just a solid, best bang for the buck rod for blank, guides and components.

* to Mexico hand carry if rods is ok

But back to the US, rods must be with baggage that goes in the plane’s belly. I left my rod case at home when the Alaska agent in US assured me I could bring it as a hand carry both ways.

They didnt tell me this until we were boarding and therefore too late. I normally don’t get upset but it was aggravating. Lucky I had family to give it to but can you imagine if it were a Loomis or some mega bass rod? I shudder at the thought.
