Need a little help from the group.

I just bought a house that's blocks from the Glades and a major canal that runs from the Glades easterly towards the shore smack between Coral Springs and Tamarac.

Mostly bank fishing or a little pier open for public use.

However I'm inexperienced especially in fresh/brackish waters and I'm curious as to what kinds of fish I can expect to find, baits or lures to use? Line to use? Sinkers or floaters? Any specific knot?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm dyeing to learn what'll become my new fishimg spots

I am in VA but hired a guide last week to fish canals around Delray, north of Ft. Lauderdale from 2-6PM. We did well with Megabass 110 SP Jerkbaits and War Eagle Spinners, double willow blade without trailer. Several days earlier he caught several 5-7lb LM in same area on these.

The LM bite was very slow but we caught a few, Peacock bass were strong and biggest was 4lbs which I think is good size for Peacock.  Other boaters were doing well with topwaters. Jigs were real good prior to my visit but we had no luck this day.

yeah i was going to say peacock are probably the most enjoyable to try and catch out there, and i've seen topwater rapalas, cranks and jerks are pretty commonly used.  my wife and i are going out there for vacation/look at homes later this year.  never lived in florida but our jobs may take us there.  how do you like it?  what's the general age group?  sounds exciting from an outdoor perspective...fresh/salt water fishing, beach, golf, etc.

actually we'll see how your thread goes.  i came here to post a similar idea, we were thinking of renting paddleboards for going through the canals.  i was considering taking my little emmrod and see if i could catch any fish while doing it.  i don't know the canals well enough though, maybe where you rent these things is too populated with tourists to expect much action.  maybe someone will chime in and answer both our questions.

I went out and fished the Stranahan River in Tephford Park near Coral Springs. Tried the black/blue worms, lizards and a sinking rapala type rig as recomended from someone else and got no action... Ironically, had the most bites with my 3 y.o's $5 Olaf/Frozen pole with fish pieces as bait. tons of bites and caught 1 crappie, bout 2 lb's.

Love living in florida, almost as much as i did in Charleston. 75+ degrees all year round takes some getting used to. in Northern Broward i live near a lot of elderly communites but age group is still pretty spread out. havent golfed since i moved (disappointed about that) but live near a lot of courses.

Anyone else, keep the tips coming.

I'll try jigs next time, im hearing alot about them.
