Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted October 31, 2017 Global Moderator Posted October 31, 2017 I just read that Garmin has announced a new line of Striker and Echomap units. That's right @NHBull days after your purchase. The Striker units will have quick draw, wi-fi The Echomap units will have touch screen capability, wi-fi, add a 6" unit I'm sure I've missed some things. They sound like some nice additional features. If I were a smart man I'd post the announcement. 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted October 31, 2017 Super User Posted October 31, 2017 I heard those were likely to come, but not for a while. Also got the word that the nines I bought will come on sale for 599.00 If that the case, I will graphics 2 and return the ones I just bought. 1 Quote

I'm not sure when they're coming out, it just said quarter 4 of this year. I would guess soon with the holidays coming. It sounds like the 9" echomap will be around $1200, if I remember right. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted October 31, 2017 Super User Posted October 31, 2017 Normally I would be ticked, but 2 9's with SI for 1200 is OK with me 3 Quote

I'm wondering how long it'll last? I can't pull the trigger until spring. I was going to go with the 73 sv but hey if I can get a couple 93's for the same price of course. Fingers crossed! Quote
bugbee77 Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Yep, I just hooked up my new 93sv on Sunday. Maybe I'll pick up the new Plus for the console and move that one up front. As long as the new Echomap Plus units and Echomap Chirps can be networked, which I would assume is possible. Only issue with that is Garmin mentioned the new units have sonar sharing across units. If that requires a different connection than the User Data cable, maybe the new and old ones can't be networked. Either way, I love my Garmin so far. Blows my buddies Elite 9TI out of the water when it comes to imaging and the quick draw is incredible. Much better than the insight genesis map I was using on my old Lowrance Hook 7. Quote

I'm not sure what route I'm going to go. If still available in the spring I might get 2 93 sv echomap if they're still on sale. If not I might go with a 73 sv echomap Plus unit and get a Striker 9 sv. From what I've been reading the ActiveCaptain app paired with these units is pretty cool. Match that with Quickdraw and I think I could get by just fine with a Striker 9 Plus unit. The pricing on these units aren't much different than before. According to Garmin's website they're supposed to be available by the end of the week. Quote

There are still a lot of the pre-Chirp echomaps around. I wouldn't be surprised if you can find a chirp 93 or two in the spring. I would get another Chirp model for my console but the touchscreen would make marking structure so much easier. My lake has been getting a lot more pressure over the past two years, so being able to scan and mark a bunch of spots with a few touches of the finger would come in handy. Quote

From what I've read with the Active Captain app paired with these units you can sit in your house with a tablet or phone and go over the lake you plan on fishing and mark areas of interest and transfer them to your unit you have. There's plenty of other cool upgrades. Quote

SuperCorona Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 Good info. New 73sv is arriving today from Cabela's. Maybe I'll return it and wait on the 93sv to drop in price, too. Quote
JigMaster4 Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 I thought I had settled on the echomap chirp, but I saw the release of the new Plus models, and became interested. My only question is if the plus models have gps, because I don't think I saw any mention of them. Quote

The nice thing about the Striker plus units is they have Quickdraw as well. Quote

JigMaster4 Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Ok, I am going with the 7" echomap chirp. What is the difference between the 73cv and 73dv. Is downvu down imaging, because I thought that Garmin couldn't sell downvu. Quote

Lowrance downscan, Humminbird down imaging. DownVu is what they used to call it but can't anymore is the way I understand it. Quote

Comfortably Numb Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 2d chirp is very good and Panoptix is amazing. Garmin's Si and Di are garbage Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted November 30, 2017 Author Global Moderator Posted November 30, 2017 I've seen plenty of images of Garmin CV and SV that are absolutely great. I've even seen where they've out performed Lowrance and Humminbird. With that said I've also seen where they couldn't compete with either. Pretty sure they're all pretty close to the same. If you throw in MEGA imaging or the HDSI transducer then of course Garmin won't compete. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 I had the 7608 and GT50. It is common knowledge that the Garmin imaging is sub par to the other brands. Even diehard Garmin users admit it. So if down imaging is important to you, you may want to look at the Helix. Quote
