There are five different models and they dive quickly and stay deep . I've used them a lot this year and have caught fish on all five  from about 6 foot to 22 foot .

Can you recommend a specific plug knocker?

I use the one from Academy for $4.99.  I use a 10" piece of old swim noodle to keep my line wrapped on.  Not above throwing it overboard to mark a spot as well.  The secret is to keep your line tight as the knocker slides down your line and give your line slack right when the knocker hits the lure.  The more over the lure you can get the easier it comes loose.

I lost two this season, both fishing at night and both were due to toothy critters.  I'm going to loose at least a dozen next year as I'm all but eliminating their use in the future and will be selling them off.

About one every 5 years thanks to the Bill Dance lure retriever. Actually I break 3 times as many baits bouncing them off the TM head than I lose.

Wonder what a plug knocker for a plug knock would have to look like  . . . . .

I've lost 5-6 this year and I have a knocker. Usually in brush piles I'm not aware of. It sucks but part of it I suppose.

I only lose 2-3 a year, and most of those are to pleasure boaters running over my line on a long cast:angry:.  I would lose a lot more if I didn't use an 18' extendable pole style lure retriever though.

Exact same for me too. The lure retriever was a fantastic investment.

I rarely fish them, so I don't have to worry about losing them :)

Now jigs on the other hand

Heck, I’ve never lost a plug. I know right where each of them is! Now getting to them ...  (Well, that’s not exactly true. There is one Whopper Plopper that swam off with a nice bass that could be anywhere. Just hope he was able to shake it loose.)

Rarely ever, but I only throw them around the middle of the lake... with no stumps or anything sticking up. I'm paranoid that if I did, I'd hang a root or something.

I'm with the majority here that have only lost a couple over the past few years because of the plug knocker.

I got my plug knocker hung up in a tree once so i had to tie it off and went back the next week to use the new one to get the old one back.

How many of you guys are making constant bottom contact?  Sure, if you are fishing a grass lake and running cranks right above the grass or fishing sandy bottom lakes I understand never losing any.  But what about dredging cranks down ledges, through rock, and through brush?  Do these big lips really let you deflect off brush and laydowns so you won't get hung very often?   Thanks for the replies.

I make sure they are making bottom contact . Not a lot deep of brush  where I fish , Lots of stumps though . No challenge for a plug knocker . Getting tangled in fishing line is what  gets me .

I used a lure retriever years ago from the low bridge it worked. My problem can be those diving trees they time it right to dive and catch my lures. They can move in front of me at anytime.
