gall Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I'm. Looking for a decent multipurpose casting rod. I had an old carbonlite mh that was perfect, but now it's Florida. So I'm on the hunt again I use more spinning gear for the areas I fish so hence the reason for multiple purposes. I would like something max length 7ft with a pretty decent weight range of baits (1/4oz-3/4oz preferred). That being said im. Also open to mh rods rates 3/8-3/4 I'd they can bet away with throwing slightly lighter baits. Last thing no xf action. I guess I'll set the budget to 150$ but willing to go a little over if need be. timsford Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 I'd look at the Powell max 3d on sale for 135 on TW. The 684 is supposed to be a more refined version of the old max 684. I used mine for a little of everything. It has enough power to fish jigs and works but still enough flex to fish single hook moving baits and squarebills/lipless around cover. Would also work great for bigger topwaters like spooks and wakebaits. The older version was very sensitive in my hands for the price and say that's probably better on the new "3d" version. Quote
gall Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 I'll have to. Check them both out. I was lookin at the fury does it fish pretty close to the power or light or heavier? Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 31, 2017 Super User Posted October 31, 2017 Without any standard to compare it’s impossible to answer your4 power question. FR704C will perform for what you have listed as lure weights and general purpose bass rod. Tom note; just retread the original post and needs a spinning rod...whoops. Not a fan of using spinning reels for general use bass lures do to line twist. You need a large diameter spinning reel spool to handle mono/coploy/FC line so the rod should have larger size stripper guides. Not sure if Dobyns makes his rods with over size stripper guides, 1st & 2nd guides. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted October 31, 2017 Posted October 31, 2017 OG Tatula 7' 2" mh/regular, unbelievable all purpose rod. Can be had for around $100 now. Zillion 7-7' 3" mh/f is a step up for around $165 if you look right. 1 Quote
gall Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 So 4 power rod it is ha. Has anyone had experience with the falcon bucco the new one that's Grey? I have the mentality get 2 cheaper Rods and have 2 slightly more purpose Rods. Quote
CroakHunter Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 I have a lengthy review of a falcon Bucoo sr on this site. Its a really nice rod. Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted November 1, 2017 Super User Posted November 1, 2017 A 6'9" MH fast will work for most things while being ideal for none. If I had to choose just one rod, that is where I'd be. 2 rods is easier, a 7' MH, and a 6'6" Med. 3 rods, add a 6'6" med spinning. 4 rods, fine tune the actions and add a dedicated frog/flipping rod,. 5 rods, add crankbait rod. 6 rods, etc, etc. Of course, this should be weighed to the lures you fish most, and preferences. When you get to 313 rods (don't ask me how I know), you reach enlightenment, and suddenly the fact that the the proper number of rods is at once zero and infinate, that you can grab pretty much any rod and go fishing. 3 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted November 1, 2017 Super User Posted November 1, 2017 I have to say I really enjoy my Tatula 7'2" MHR. Another great possibility is the Tatula 6'10" MHF. Do yourself a favor and go to jet.com. I just ordered one for less than $100 with tax. Free shipping. This will make 5 Tatula casting rods for me. Super rods for the money afaic. 1 Quote
gall Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 Croak that's good to know you like it I've eyeballs it a few times. Reason if I had a boat I would without a doubt have a ton more rods and reels, but sadly apace is limited for me, but like you said 6'6,7ft is a good LL around. And new arr they the ones with the I wanna say carbon tip? I read somewhere people complaininf about being fragile. Quote
swandog Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 Lew’s TP1 casting rod. They specifically have one that is labeled ‘Multi-purpose” - It is a 7’ Medium-heavy with WINN grips and microwave guides. Great all around rod. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 1, 2017 Super User Posted November 1, 2017 Most any 7 MH/F rod will do in that price range. Tons of great options. 1 Quote
thinkingredneck Posted November 1, 2017 Posted November 1, 2017 If your old carbonlite was perfect, why not just get another one? Quote
gall Posted November 1, 2017 Author Posted November 1, 2017 Thanks guys for everyone's input I'll have to start narrowing it done. 11 minutes ago, thinkingredneck said: If your old carbonlite was perfect, why not just get another one? Really solid rods at 100 bucks. Fish a little heavier than labeled 1 Quote

HookRz Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 I bank fish a lot, and use a bunch of different rods, but when I'm fishing medium cover shorelines the one rod I carry is is a Loomis IMXjwr. I know it's listed as an XF, but it's really not that fast imho. Quote
gall Posted November 2, 2017 Author Posted November 2, 2017 Have you guys ever ordered from them? I get their promo emails and was eyeballing the rod. It sounds like a lot of people either say that lews or the dobyns furry for that price point. I'm not sure how I feel about the microwave guides on a casting rod though. Quote

I've ordered from them six or seven times and haven't had any real issues that weren't resolved. Great prices if you watch it closely, I got two villians that normally run $200 each for $60 each shipped a few years back. The elite tech smallmouth rod is a heck of a rod from what I've heard to, but you better hurry cause they're selling fast. Quote
gall Posted November 3, 2017 Author Posted November 3, 2017 I might have to pull the trigger and Hookrz small world it if you belong to another forum similar to this one. You've literally given me advice on both ha Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted November 3, 2017 Super User Posted November 3, 2017 The Elite Tech Smalllmouth is a great rod at full price. Anyone wanting a MHF and feel that a 6'9" length is okay should jump on them. I've got one, but normally prefer 7' or longer on my MH rods. The rods are quite light. Sensitivity is good. Handle is a bit short. My 6'10" MF is a favorite rod. Quote

Went to sleep planning on buying one of these when there were eight left and boom they were gone! That shows the buying power of this site I think! Too bad...this was a sweet deal. Quote
