Both statements are true, however the Pflueger casting reels that were highest level of craftsmanship during the 40's and 50's failed to make needed changes to keep pace with the Swedish design Abu Ambassaduer free spool lighter weight reel in the 60's. Today the Pflueger company manufacturers no reels, they own their brand and trademark reel names, importing reels sold through discount houses and mail order. Okuma manufactured imported Pflueger reels, not sure who mfr's Pflueger reels today? I should add that very few Abu Ambassaduer reels are made in Sweden today, the majority are imported from China. Michiganbassing Posted October 30, 2017 Author Posted October 30, 2017 So, without the daiwas in question, the shimano caenan has 4BB +1, but the Pflueger President Xt has 9 BB, does this mean that the xt is smoother, or just has cheap bearings while the shimano has higher quality bearings, I am confused. Fishingmickey Posted October 30, 2017 Posted October 30, 2017 Hi Mich, I have both the Caenan and the Casistas (two of each). They perform very well and have proven to be good and reliable reels. I also have two of the Curado 70's, four Curado 300e's, one Curado 200e, a Curado K, a Citica Xship. two Chronarch's (CI4 model), a Scorpion JDM, one Tranx and a Metanium MGL JDM. So I might be a little Shimano biased. Not going to say anything about the Tatula's I've never tried them. From what I have seen here, elsewhere on the web and in the tournament circles the Diawa's are fine reels too. Regards, Fishingmickey p.s. I wouldn't pay a lot of attention to the number of bearings, it is the quality of them that counts. 1 Quote

The main gear, pinon gear and how well they are cut and how they mesh are the main culprits in reel smoothness. I'm sorry to report that my Casitas MGL is the most geary plastic reel I own and I am not able to recommend that particular platform. Well then what would you reccomend for 80 dollars Quote

That was just a couple months ago. I ended up getting a Tatula SV for $130 on eBay. I'm very happy with it. I would recommend keeping an eye on eBay for a few months. Prices on tatula ct leftys were $80 a while back and I imagine they should come back down during winter. Black Friday isn't too far off either. Agree. Picked up a left hand Fuego CT for $55 + $7.25 shipping for a sister-in-law to get her into baitcasting. Looked 2 days later and couldn't find the same deal. Quote
Michiganbassing Posted October 31, 2017 Author Posted October 31, 2017 I dont know how comfortable Me and my parents would be buying a product off ebay and not knowing if it has defects. Quote

They aren't a private dude in his underwear reselling counterfeit broken junk. They use ebay as a storefront. They also have a web site that you can buy from if you feel more comfortable. I've bought from them multiple times and you can rest assured that it is as solid a source as going into your local brick and mortar store. 1 Quote

That happens when you can buy a new Tatula for less than $100 and a Fuego for less than $70. Those buying the reels for retail shouldn't be surprised when they can't sell a used reel for more than what a new reel can be found on ebay. Or even at ebay prices. Given a choice of a new reel at $100 or a used reel at $95 which would you buy? That is why I never pay MSRP and wait for new reel prices to come down. Closeout prices are even better. Would love to try a Curado K, but if I bought one now and decided next year that it wasn't for me, I'd be lucky to get 50% of what I paid for it even if it had only been used a couple times and looked like new. I'm with you that it suxs what a like new used reel goes for...if you are the seller. It seems to me that people think a used one has to be at least 40% below new price or they are getting stiffed. Probably why I've only sold one reel and that was practically a give away (of a like new Tatula) to a college kid wanting to get into baitcast reels. Who am I kidding? Truth be told I hate the idea of selling any of my reels. 1 Quote
primetime Posted November 2, 2017 Posted November 2, 2017 The New President with the *** style grips is highly rated and is rated as the best buy and only $80. You can find them for less already on ebay, then again, you can buy a Revo S or SX on ebay for under $90, Daiwa Fuego 69, Tatula 88, I would buy a Pro Max for $39 on ebay. that is a great reel, the Orra Sx is awesome for $65, I would only be worried about it being discontinued for parts, but then again I believe it is ultimately the same as a few other reels which look the same, just different name. Shimano Caenan for $69 is a great deal, Casistas is a bit more and only difference is the braking system which I don't think makes much difference, If you want a lews, a guy has the Tournament MG for $89, LFS are 75ish. Lastly, Ducket 320 for 65 and it was top rated casting reel overall 3 years ago by the most reputable imo review by outdoor life at a price of $279, maybe it was the larger 360 but a new ducket 320 is over 200, I just grabbed one at 65 and It is as nice as any reel I own if not smoother with 13 quality bearings, it feels way better than my Tatula's, and every other 200 range reel, curado included, just my take. Have only had it for a few weeks but reviews are awesome. The companies on Ebay are the same as buying from any online site. They guys auctioning reels every minute, great feedback, legacy fishing and many others are also websites and have storefronts in different state. Local shops by me who are Okuma dealers have Ebay shops to help move inventory. Small business tackle shops are dying, Ebay is a great tool to move last years stock especially reels since they drop in price every year. Bass Pro has an Ebay and Amazone site as well. I have purchased rods and reels new you can even buy insurance if you want, Ebay holds buyers responsible and you would get money back if you had a problem. I have only had one issue ever and was refunded within a few hours once I put it back in the mail. Was a factory defect, Ebay sellers often add in free stuff so you come back. $80 cover, and braid for a tatula last week not a bad deal, gone in a few hours, but look at auctions, brands like Browning, Ardent, Cabela;s-Daiwa, Pflueger baitcasters often go really cheap since not searched for, same for quantum reels.
