Super User NHBull Posted October 20, 2017 Super User Posted October 20, 2017 I haven't seen a shallow water anchor on an aluminum boat, but I think I want one. Despite the added weight, is there anything else I should consider? I was thinking about a 10 footer. Thanks Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 20, 2017 Super User Posted October 20, 2017 8ft generation 1 mounted direct to transom with a homemade spacer and a tilt bracket. @A-Jay has his mounted with sandwich brackets. Consider type/location of mount, tilt bracket, security locks, quick release handles, hard wire straight to battery or use plugs. There is an optional foot controller, I do not have it but A-Jay does. Unit comes with 2 remotes and the remotes are "learnable" I have one I wear around my neck and another mounted on the dash. 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted October 20, 2017 Author Super User Posted October 20, 2017 @slonezp thanks! Is that a 10 footer? Looks like I cut another check Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 20, 2017 Super User Posted October 20, 2017 No, it's an 8 footer. When I bought it the 10 wasn't available yet Quote

Nope - Straight to the transom with Tilt Brackets. Need to ensure the mounting hardware is Through Bolted - Access may be a PIA. If not done the hardware Will Pull OUT - which in most every case I can think of - is highly undesirable. A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted October 21, 2017 Super User Posted October 21, 2017 Sometimes mounting a power pole or talon to the transom will void the transom warranty of a boat so make sure that its acceptable to do so with your manufacturer prior to doing this. There is also a universal modular adapter bracket that can be used in the event that you can't mount it directly to your transom. Quote

I don't want to speak for Lund, but some of their dealer point of sale advertising does or did depict transom mounted Talons. Kickers with rigging are a factory option. Jackplates are no longer frowned upon nor are wave wackers, Humminbird 360 units or MK Vantage trolling motors , I've seen prostaff and guide boats with no extra room left on the transoms because of all the accessories they have hanging off the back. Lund ain't your momma's boat. 1 Quote
3dees Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 good for tin bass boats too. 10' on sandwich bracket. 1 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted October 21, 2017 Global Moderator Posted October 21, 2017 Wait until the 15 foot Talons come out! ? Pretty sure you won't have to worry about warranty on your Lund. If you can put them on most Trackers you can certainly put them on a Lund. Quote

At what point does a shallow water anchor no longer exist as a shallow water anchor? Not that I have a problem with holding position in 15 feet but that's why I have a Terrova. Now, I'm not mathematician, scientist, or engineer, but I was a journeyman pipefitter in a previous life. I have to believe physics plays a huge roll in the design and success of these anchors. I would think the longer the anchor with an equal pounds per square inch of force applied to the bottom from the weight of the boat, plus current, plus wind, plus and the distance of the mounting bracket from the point of force, = the pressure placed on the mounting point will be exponentially greater. I imagine the effect of pressure would be similar to that of adding a cheater bar on a pipe wrench to loosen a joint. The longer the bar, the less force need be applied to break the joint loose. Hence the longer the anchor the more force on the transom the better chance of talon and transom failure. I'm done being smart for the day. Going to go pick up a face cord of firewood. 3 Quote

I was being facetious. I think 15' is a bit much. While you're getting firewood I'm going to go rid my yard of leaves so there's room for the leaves that will fall this afternoon when the wind picks up. ? NHbull I'd get the Ultrex if feasable. 2 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 21, 2017 Super User Posted October 21, 2017 Enjoy those winds. I'm sending them your way. We had gusts at 30 this afternoon. Not bad right now. Supposed to blow 40 overnight and rain all day tomorrow. 1 Quote

According to one of the weather guesses here we're looking at 3-4 inches of rain between tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday p.m. when they're wrong their excuse is "it's so hard to predict the weather because of lake Michigan". Nothing near 30 mph winds so it's looking like you kept it. ? 1 Quote

RenegadeBassin Posted November 8, 2017 Posted November 8, 2017 If anyone stumbles upon a picture of the new 15' talon on a boat, or gets one themselves, post it! They are available to "build" now on minn kota's website and I'd like to know if they look too ridiculous or not at that height on a bass boat. Quote

Just looked them up.... 70" tall and have a $2500 price tag. Yikes! Big question I think would be how much do they weigh? Quote
