youngfish15 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I have recently found I small pond it’s very clear and I can see huge bass in the open spots the edge is pretty mossy and has grass and some limbs along the side and I don’t know what baits to use I have tried football jigs Texas Rigged senkos wacky rigged senkos and small crappie jigs I also tried a hollow body top water frog with no luck if you have any ideas please let me know Quote
Super User J Francho Posted October 20, 2017 Super User Posted October 20, 2017 No sub surface moving baits? Spinnerbaits work well for me in that type of shoreline cover. Cast somewhat parallel to the bank at targets like laydowns, and you'll probably have some luck. Ponds seem to be very time dependent, so try different times. 3 Quote

Do they see these lures all the time? 2) Keep in mind u mention it's very clear and you can see them. Try wearing dark clothes and literally creep up. I fish clear ponds all the time and it's crucial you do this. 3) Ur baits got to be quite hitting the water more so than usual. You need to have some ability to pitch and definitely casting with accuracy. Usually I'm always pitching/flipping a pond and avoiding long casts unless it's my frog. 3a) throw the frog into trees and bushes and make him fall gently (especially overhanging trees) - walking the frog is almost a must in open water between grass "beds" 4) If ur using braid make sure it's very small diameter and as clear as u can get it . 5) I'd suggest a finesse jig (Eakins specifically) 6) work the pond quickly until something ques you in on where, what they are hitting. Every detail. 7) I always move if i snag and brake branches or something. May sound crazy but pond fish are much more finicky. That's why it's rare to see giant bass pulled from public ponds (assuming they are there). 8) My my most successful pond fishing comes at night time, dead quiet. Just very dim light on the water, dont play music, don't smoke near you gear. It all sounds anal and insane but I'm only saying what I try to do and avoid. And it's worked for myself 9) use google earth and u can tell where deeper parts are located. 10) Be confident, I promise u Will get a good one with persistence. 1 Quote

Some of the pressured ponds I fish require me to stand 15-20 yards from the waters edge. 9 times out of 10, if you can see the fish, they can see you. Quote
frogflogger Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 good place for flukes, senkos and never ever give up on the frog Quote
clh121787 Posted October 23, 2017 Posted October 23, 2017 Something weedless and natural. Make a good presentation if they're on any kind of a feed they'll bite if they aint spooked. Clear water fish spook easily. Make longer casts. Take mental notes of fish you may bump and locations. Let them settle. Come back later. This works for me in similar conditions. Be easy on the trolling motor. Quote
Super User burrows Posted October 24, 2017 Super User Posted October 24, 2017 Baby minus rite over the grass, timber tiger in the wood. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted October 24, 2017 Super User Posted October 24, 2017 If its a small pond that has seen a decent selection of baits you may have to work outside the box. Go with a small swim bait like the huddelston grass minnow or a trash fish. Slow roll the bait and make it an easy target. Both of those baits are very realistic looking and can be fished on a medium or medium heavy regular bass rod. Quote
