BassFisher22 Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 I am looking for a Jon boat to throw on the back of a truck. I will do small pond fishing and river fishing with it. I have looked at the Sundolphin American 12. The reviews seem great on them and I love the light weight. I was wondering if anyone owns one or has owned one? How do they compare to aluminum Jon boats and which one is the better choice? Thanks for all the feedback Quote
pauldconyers Posted July 8, 2018 Posted July 8, 2018 In the same spot here. Would like to hear some opinions. Quote
volzfan59 Posted July 9, 2018 Posted July 9, 2018 I had the Coleman Crawdad version of this boat, they are similar. The older Crawdad's were rated for 10 HP and single hulled, that's what I had. The Sun Dolphin American 12, Pelican Intruder 12 and later models of the Crawdad are rated for 6 HP and are double hulled. Sadly, the Crawdad is no longer in production as far as I know. Mine was a great boat, especially for rivers, creeks and rocky areas, pretty much indestructible. They feel a little tippy when standing, although I never flipped mine. Another down side, limited space for tackle and rods. I'm actually thinking about buying another one. As far as comparing to an aluminum boat and assuming we're talking the same price point, it would be a riveted boat. The obvious thing is no rivets to leak. Quote
