Diablos Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Hello guys I'm your typical forum troll browser. I've been a part-time bait dunking shore fisherman for a couple of years and after much fantasizing(and wife's blessing ) I went from 0 to 60 in the last month. I purchased all new St. Croix rods and new and used stradics and Fin-nor Ahabs and a lifetime supply of senkos. Last but not least, a new boat that could be used in salt or fresh. My first few trips have been fun and a little stressful trying to soak everything in and launching a new boat for the first time. The main problem is spring weather is windy in New England getting the boat to set up for casting with the trolling motor can be nerving. Do you guys go against the wind or with it when drifting along? I'm guessing you go with it and use the trolling motor to slow you down so you don't drift too fast by some good spots. Thanks Aaron Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 14, 2007 Super User Posted May 14, 2007 For me fishing is all about boat control and positioning. If your boat is not where it should be for you to make good casts you might as well be at home. Therefore, I fish into the wind about 90% of the time. I also try to find windy places and fish where the wind is the strongest. One of the guys I sometimes fish with fishes with the wind and we rarely have a good day when in his boat. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted May 14, 2007 Super User Posted May 14, 2007 Aaron, let me be the first to welcome you to this site. It's the best bass fishing site on the planet, as you will soon learn. As for using the trolling motor, I would suggest that you use it while trolling into the wind, instead of with the wind. It's much easier to control. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Look into drift anchors!!! They save the day in the spring. For cheap $$ ($30 or so), all your problems with wind will be resolved. Since I got my 2nd one ( 2 different sizes now, depending on how strong the wind is), I can even fish soft plastics in 20-25 mph winds out of a jon boat. Quote
SteveFinMD Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Welcome and congrats on your new rig. You have already had your question answered so I will ask you one. Is that a jet motor on that rig? Quote
RecMar8541 Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Welcome aboard!!! Steve I dont think it is a jet, in the first pic you can see a prop blade just above the tail light!! Nice looking boat, be safe and enjoy! Recon Quote
HunteR Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Welcome Aboard! Very nice rig. GL with her... Dave Quote

Black Bass Posted May 21, 2007 Posted May 21, 2007 Very nice! Since it's to big to take to bed with you, have you slept-out in it? <G> I know you'll enjoy it! Kudos to your wife for allowing a fisherman to actualize his dreams. Quote
