Super User A-Jay Posted September 4, 2022 Author Super User Posted September 4, 2022 After a brief and much needed respite, I was back in the home gym this morning. Coming back after a deload is always humbling and an instant reminder of just how fast a body can revert back to being untrained. (insert weak). Modified my routine to match my somewhat calorie restricted diet and we'll see how it goes. I'm coming back feeling rejuvenated either way.  #borninfiftynine A-Jay 5 Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted September 5, 2022 Super User Posted September 5, 2022 Nicely done, buddy!  I was at it this morning after being away all weekend, although I brought some dumbbells with me, so I got a small workout on Saturday.  Decided to jump rope this morning just to get the blood flowing. 5 boxer rounds, 3 min on, 1 min off. For strength work it was press in s n a t c h (sots press), back squats, s n a t c h. Accessory work with resistance bands mostly for external rotation, and finally 1/2 kneeling bent press for thoracic rotation and shoulder stability with a fairly light kettlebell.  S n a t c h form was on point today. Good overhead position and lockout, great bottom position, below parallel. Sat very comfortably in an upright overhead squat. Probably the best in forever. 2 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted September 26, 2022 Author Super User Posted September 26, 2022 Haven't been on this one in a few. After my wife's health took a turn I pretty much went into a funk. One that wasn't real excited about working out. So I wasn't. To add to the fun, I've been dealing with what I'm calling a 'cranky' right knee. Not exactly sure what that deal is or how it happened. Had some stiffness, swelling and lost some range of motion/flexibility. Either way, I wasn't going to be able to workout until at least some of it resolved. Fortunately, after about 10 days (of limping around) most of it has and I'm back at it. Sometimes life comes at us pretty fast. A-Jay  5 Quote

Good to hear. I know what it all means to you, and to let it drop off is concerning. Glad you're okay. In other news, I started going to the gym. Yes, I kid you not. It's not like what you guys are doing. I lost quite a bit core strength at the beginning of this year when I was sick for almost three months. That loss has affected my drumming and skateboarding. So, off to the gym it is. I'm not willing to sacrifice the two things I love as much as fishing just because I'm too lazy to hit the weight room. 3 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted September 27, 2022 Super User Posted September 27, 2022 It's not like I'm weak in that department, I just don't feel as strong when skating halfpipe as I once did. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted September 27, 2022 Super User Posted September 27, 2022 Sorry JF, I wasn't trying to say you were weak in that department. Hope it didn't come off that way. Good luck anyway Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 27, 2022 Super User Posted September 27, 2022 Not at all, no apology necessary. It was a statement about how I noticed this lack of control I once had and want it back. Does that make any sense? I mean, I'm 50 and skating so I should consider myself lucky I guess. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted September 27, 2022 Super User Posted September 27, 2022 I have had some parts replaced and feel better at 70 than I did 10 years ago. New shoulder, new hip and better meds. So, how do I get signed up for the Boston Marathon?                                1 3 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted September 29, 2022 Author Super User Posted September 29, 2022 Getting back after even a minor injury type layoff can be tough. As is gaining trust & confidence in the injured area. Luckily, I think I'm going to be OK. #borninfiftynine A-Jay 3 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted September 29, 2022 Super User Posted September 29, 2022 Hadn't worked out regularly since college and that combined with undisciplined eating habits resulted in me putting on a lot of weight over the years as I advanced from standing jobs to sitting behind a desk. Finally hit my tipping point earlier this year and I'm down nearly 50 lbs since spring. Thanks for being an inspiration to the middle aged crew looking to be in the fit after 50 club. Â 2 1 Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted October 1, 2022 Author Super User Posted October 1, 2022 Planned on being on Lake Menderchuck in the afternoon which was plenty of time to knock this one out in the morning. Performed two working sets of 8 exercises. Showing one here. Right knee is very close to 100 % now. A-Jay   3 Quote

bigbassin' Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 You may have posted before, but what’s your diet? That’s where I struggle.  For me personally the gym is the easy part. Enjoy putting on some headphones and moving weight. Plus the difference in how I feel when I lift vs don’t is so night and day it’s easy to convince myself to go even if I don’t want to most days. You also get the instant satisfaction of seeing/feeling the pump after a hard lifting session.  Cardio is a little harder but unless I have a tough day at work (physical labor so I’m definitely getting my steps in, normally while under load) I’ll get it done.   Diet over the weekend kills me. Every Friday I’m 5-8 pounds lighter than I am on Monday. I figure most of this is water weight due to increased salt intake, which I then sweat off working outside during the week. Quote

If it were, 80% of this country wouldn't be clinically obese. Long term / Life Long Success only comes when one makes this a priority and a life style.  I posted my version a few times. Below is the latest one.  Also I prescribe to just about everything in the video linked below. It's not magic or any type of secret - just the honest truth. https://youtu.be/vEA9EZXyVqM The video is 20 minutes or so - If a man did and lived everything in it, he'd get where he wanted to be and most importantly, he'd stay there. Good Luck A-Jay  Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted October 2, 2022 Author Super User Posted October 2, 2022 This Total Body training felt pretty good. Seems my best results come when I resist the urge to 'do more'. Which usually leads to over training. #borninfiftynine A-Jay  2 Quote
