Off Day today ~ and I need it.

It's also 'meal prep day'.

4.5 lbs Garlic Herd Chicken Thighs (broiled)

3 lbs Ground Turkey (93/7) Browned

Baked Sweet Potatoes

Basmati Rice w/Turmeric

Whole Grain Pasta (blend of semolina, lentils, chick peas with oats, flaxseed and barley)

Steamed Broccoli, Green Beans & Asparagus .

Cooking this stuff in advance and in bulk is the way to go for me.

Takes some time and effort today but helps keep me on track in the long run.

Missing meals is counter productive.

I'll hammer away on this until it's almost gone and then ramp it all up again.

No question that there is a list of things I can't do now

that I could, 10 or 20 years ago.

But it's not a long list.

Back in the day my battle cry in the gym was "No Pain - No Gain"; regardless of the cost.

Not any more though, now it's more about form, recovery & consistency.

Probably should have been that way all along.

It was "Slow Rep Day" in the home gym this afternoon.

Always fairly Intense.

Off Day tomorrow.

Switched this one up a bit.

Started with a Leg Extension / Leg Curl Super set.

Then did a Step Back Lunge where I added a 3rd plate under my front leg for more range of motion. Finished off with calf raises.

Nice man.

Another Friday and I already know they're gonna feel heavy today. Hopefully I get out soon and workout done by 4:30.

So does that mean an active rest day or did you kick it up a notch ?

I'm off Day tomorrow.

And as usual, I need it.

I actively rested :)

I worked out 5 days in a row this week, I knew today was going to be a 50-50

Yep

You know much better than I do that rest is just as important as the workout

In my head the hierarchy is:

1. Nutrition

2. Exercise

2 again. Rest

No doubt man.

I used to beat myself up for missing workouts.

Not anymore -

If & when I'm not feeling it -

I skip that chit and prep for the next one.

I had a scary situation over the winter where my arm from the elbow down would go numb. Doc made me stop and said it was a nerve issue.
No need for putting yourself in that position

Thanks for pulling up an ice block and lending an ear, bud

After the off day, it was Leg Day.

Went 'Heavy' this morning.

And that's Definitely a relative term.

The longer this hard water season hangs on,

the more prepared I expect to be for open water.

Still training ~

Knocked out workout #64 of 2022 this morning.

Taking a break from posting video.

In preparation for open water (which is still at least a week or two away)

I've switched my routine to a 'lighter' total body deal.

Been doing this for a couple years now.

If this goes according to the plan, I'll perform it every other day with an off day in between.

My time on the water is precious but I just don't feel right

about completely blowing off my training to fish.

So a compromise is in order.

These 'abbreviated' workouts will allow me to grind pretty hard

while still leaving enough gas in the tank to recover and perhaps more importantly -  FISH !

Might need to step up the daily calorie intake a bit but we'll play that one by ear.

Best part about all of this might be that as another winter ends,

I'm in at least as good a shape as I was 5 months ago when it started.

I rarely weigh myself but this morning a tipped the scale at @165 lbs.

Expect to be at least 5-10 lbs lighter by the 1st of June,

simply by coming out of hibernation.
