Working on the walking sticks today ~

Knocked out some leg presses. 

The 58 year old bones seem to be responding well. 

Hope to keep it rolling.

Huge props for being in that kind of shape at 58, A-Jay.  I'm noticing now that at 33, it's a lot harder to maintain weight/fitness than it was 5-10 years earlier.  Through my 20s I grappled between 165-175lbs with less than 10% body fat.  The combination of work and back problems jumped me as high as 215. I'm currently at 204 and working my way back down.  The hardest parts, I think, are diet and consistency, but I've seen a lot of progress this year after finally healing from back surgery and hope to be back around 190 by the Summer.  

 

Good luck to everyone else trying to get healthy and in shape.

Working out is great and all

 

But do you follow any diet regimes?  Whats your diet like?  I do intermittent fast 16 on 8 off and am about 13%bf and not progressing much lately...just a plateau I guess.

Yes ~   I eat to support my training.  Several small meals a day.  Lots of egg whites, chicken & fish for protein. I do enjoy a steak now & then though)  Brown rice, sweet & white potatoes, Oatmeal, Whole grain pasta & a few bean for carbohydrates.  2 or 3 servings of Fruit & vegetables a day (usually raw in a salad - olive oil & balsamic vinegar for dressing) .  Virtually no bread, very little if any alcohol (that's a new one - past year or so - Mexico excluded ***makes a huge different for me)  and there's no snacking - everything consumed is a small balanced meal spaced 3 hours or so apart - 7 am, 10:30 am, 1:30 pm, 5 pm & 8 pm.  3 or 4 nights a week I'll have a protein drink before bed.   

Keep in mind, I am a retired person.  No kids, no job and I'm on A-Jay time most every day.  I did this before retirement but it was part of my job (eating right, and exercising) so that made it a little easier. 

 I would never fast - don't see where it would help me - I feel I need the gas in the tank to fuel the machine and as long as I don't put low grade fuel in - can't see why I'd need to ask my body to perform at it's peak without the necessary sustenance to do so.   

It's worked for me - for just about all of my adult life.  No magic, just commitment.

I watch his videos from time to time.  Very good advice from him. 

 

Fasting fits my schedule and my job isnt overly active.  Im actually more focused now when fasting due to not having a glucose fog hanging over me in morning.  Just caffiene until lunch.  Then i workouy after work, have dinner and a snack before bed.  Dont need to count calories but I do try to eat clean.

Maybe one day!!! I eat everything that's not nailed down and use all free time to fish or read about fishing........ it's a disease.........fishitis......I'm about 6'1" 205, I tell my girlfriend that I'm the same specs as an NFL free safety, only shaped different and remarkably slower....... I figure keeping all my excess weight around the waist will keep me on the boat deck on those windy days, low center of gravity ya know

Great job A-Jay.

My oldest son hits the gym 5 out of 7 days a week.

He is attending University in the fall with plans to be a Physiotherapist.

 

Now i need a nap. :)

Excellent, A-Jay. Keep up the good work.

 

I need to lose 25 pounds and so far I have dropped 10.

 

Still crave soft drinks, candy, pies, cake, biscuits covered in a sausage sauce, pancakes, pancake syrup, cinnamon buns, King Cakes from New Orleans, Snickers, Milky Ways, Hersey's dark chocolate, cheese cake, any type of bread, poboys, hoagies, pasta, pizza, etc., etc., etc.

 

But I am determined to see my feet again so I keep plugging away.

That's a seriously tempting list right there - and if I put that in my house, I can admit it'd be a challenge not to indulge.  Truth is - I don't. 

Good way for me to stay clear of counter productive items is to not have that type of temptation with in reach - out of sight - out of mind sort of deal.

Keep at it and best of luck reintroducing yourself to your feet.

When we get April snow (like today), it does seem to make the winter feel extra-long.

However the time off the water, when used constructively, does have its benefits.

AJ, you are  inspirational. I am going to start a work out routine again. I like the hanging bar you have there. Did you just use eye bolts in the rafters?

I have been following this thread for a while and can't  name a more disciplined person.  Until a few yrs ago, I could still pass the PFT I took in boot camp.  Now I have to get in shape to start getting in shape.  I think grandchildren will be a great motivator......

You can do it - start slow and make it a priority.

Quality of life is a good motivator too.  

We're all going to slow down, how much and how fast is up to you.

You’re stacked A-Jay! I’m starting to get myself back in shape. My job used to be hanging drywall and framing commercial buildings. Needless to say it was great exercise. I was 6’1” and just slightly over 200 pounds, I was pretty solid. My job now is climbing in the truck and driving point to point. I did quit all nicotine, and I’ve cut way down on soda, so I packed on a little more. I haven’t done anything drastic, more fruit and vegetables, no candy, less servings. I’ve only been at it a couple weeks, but noticed my pants are a little looser :)

Quitting smoking is a big plus. Kudos on that. I know it wasn't easy to do.  I did it about 20 yrs ago and to this day still get the urge.  Also giving up soda made a huge impact on stopping my pants from shrinking. :lol:

Honestly, I think stopping soda made me gain! I always drank diet so I wasn’t getting sugar from it, but it cut down the night time cravings. I’ve gone back to having a pop with dinner, water doesn’t do it for me, and honestly being fat is probably going to kill me a lot quicker than a Diet Coke with supper? Getting off the nicotine was rough, but man I’m glad I’m free of it!

As much as I'd really like to be posting up FISHING VIDEOS, the (believe it or not) sub-zero over night temps here are going to keep that action on hold for at least a couple more weeks.

In the meantime - I'm going to keep working.

Some of today's “Physical Therapy”.

Always a tough one but arguably the most important.

Those step back lunges have been a saving grace for my knees.

Mixing up the core work keeps it ‘fresh’.

Which is a nice way of saying ~ sort of brutal.

I'll be sore tomorrow.
