Just this year I started tying on a leader to my Power Pro 15lb braid. I went with Berkley Invis, but so far the line has broken 3 times and I've lost three lures and three fish. Enough with Berkley.

So now I'm wanting to get some better fluoro to use as a leader. A lot of guys have recommended Seaguar Invizx. How good is this line as a leader and if you use this line how does it hold up?

Thanks :)

Can you elaborate a little more on "leader material"?

I just did some googling and discovered that what I need to look for is fluorocarbon leader, not fluorocarbon fishing line. Something like Seaguar Blue Label.

If you must hAve flourocarbon the leader material is the strongest.  I use a copoly as leader material because of the much better knot strength.

Was your leader breaking at the knot to the lure or someplace else? Regarding the Berkley line that was failing, was that Berkley "Vanish" by chance?

This is exactly why I don't use leaders.  Never have, never will.  Too many problems, plus an additional failure point - the knot.

I used to spend the extra bucks on leaders but now I just use left over flouro line and I have had no issues. Good knot tying takes practice. My knots have never failed me on a fish.

Yes, that is the one.

your line snapped or your knot came undone?

It either broke or was chewed through. I believe the fish were pike.

I may try the Seaguar Blue Label. As a fluoro leader it gets pretty good reviews.

If it's northern pike, and bent on using fluoro, then you need to use 100 lb. fluoro leader, and get used to crimping the connections.  Otherwise, you can try something Cortland Toothy Critter, which is a tie-able, coated steel.  If it isn't pike, then practice tying and test your knot strength.

I'm well seasoned in tying fishing line so I know knots are good. It's not breaking at the knots anyway, it's further up. Which is why I think the vanish is probably crap.

Well, yeah.  Vanish isn't really meant for bass fishing.  It was designed for walleye fishing.  I think you'll find the Seaguar leader tough as nails.  I use it in 4 to 12# size, and it holds up well to the zebes up here.

JF, thanks for the info, bro. I'll have to get the 12lb, unless does it come in 15lb? I have 15lb Power Pro on my rig so I'd like to have the same in the leader.

You can get it direct from Seaguar, or do a google on it.  Cabela's is where I got the crimping tools.  There's tons of videos on YouTube that show how to do it.
