Chaddy Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 What's some good lures to put numbers in the boat in the fall? I know people talk about jigs putting bigger fish in the boat but I just want to catch fish not worried about weight. 1 Quote
Birdman2136 Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 What type of water? What species large or smallmouth? 1 Quote
Bassin' Brad Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Don't know the details on your situation but a Rat-L-trap is a good place to start. The little I've used one I like it. Chrome with blue back. 3 Quote

Dorado Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 1/4 oz pearl white chatterbait, Bone white with orange belly Mann’s Baby One-Minus and a small Squarebill (like a Live target Threadfin Shad Baitball Series) are great search baits for the Fall. My mind is only on Shad right now. Once you find em and want to slow down..... shakey head and Ned rig should get those numbers to rise. Quote

HookRz Posted October 17, 2017 Posted October 17, 2017 If you want numbers, finesse tubes, Ned's. All seasons. 1 Quote

Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 18, 2017 Global Moderator Posted October 18, 2017 When I want numbers and few bigger fish thrown in, I just throw plastic. The right plastic will work in any water anywhere. Mike 4 Quote
Birdman2136 Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I'm not very experienced, but I've had luck on rivers with Whopper Ploppers, Keitech Fat Impact 3.8 with a 3/0 EWG 1/8 oz, and Kailin's Grubs on a Darter head. My buddies do well on black and blue jigs with trailers and the Ned Rig. I haven't reached that slower method of fishing yet. Quote
Pro Logcatcher Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I live right near Charlotte, and have been catching fish on faster moving lures like a buzzbait and a spinnerbait. Quote
gobig Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 If you got water that you can fish a spoon in, I can't think of a better fall numbers bait. 1 Quote

Chaddy Posted October 18, 2017 Author Posted October 18, 2017 I've never used a chatterbait. Do you use a trailer with a chatterbait? If so what kind? I probably buy a black and blue and green pumpkin. I just bought my first jigs in black and blue and green pumpkin. What kind and color trailer do I need to use with them? Are you supposed use trailer with jigs? Quote
primetime Posted October 18, 2017 Posted October 18, 2017 I like To use Swimbaits & Soft Jerkbaits. I also like to use lighter line in the fall since usually I am around lighter cover, I also start to rely on lipless crankbaits more. Kind of same lures that work all year, I like to rig a grub in the fall and swim it on a darter head, or rig a sluggo on a darter head and let it sink on slack line. Once I find fish,I then just slow down and fish the same stuff I normally use, Mainly a Jig of some kind, or shad style bait like the Keitech Shiner style which I really like lately. Quote

Chaddy Posted October 19, 2017 Author Posted October 19, 2017 Thanks for the help on my stupid newbie questions. Where would I fish a spoon? What's a couple good colors to start out with on a couple chatterbaits? Quote

Super User scaleface Posted October 20, 2017 Super User Posted October 20, 2017 All these baits mentioned work well all summer too . You may find the bass a little more aggressive some days or may not but they still bite the same baits . Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 20, 2017 Global Moderator Posted October 20, 2017 Spinnerbait or bladed jig is probably my best numbers bait in fall. Fall is big fish time for me though, not time to worry about numbers. Numbers are a nice bonus if they happen, but this is when I'm out looking for those big fish 6+ that are much easier to catch this time of year. Quote
