I bought a few when they came on the market and have not had great results with them.  About half of them require the rod be at 11:00 for the lure to stay on the surface.

Pickerel like them, but up here, they’ll hit almost anything noisy/shiny.

What size?

The 90s can be harder to plane, 110 and 130 are better.

I can't believe you guys have so much success w/ it.

Where I fish I never got a hit, not even once..

I hate saying this, but I've had 4, lost 3, one is broke because i smashed it in the side of the boat casting like the idiot I am .. who also hooked his gf last Friday while casting, thats a different thread.

but between the 3 I lost I casted quite a bit and never a single hit.. ive caught monsters on buzzbaits, I love them way more

I had a guy lose 3 in one trip. Almost didn't make any money on that trip he lost so many of my baits.

I think a lot of people fish them too fast. I've seen it time and time again on guide trips when I'll tell someone to slow down and they'll get slammed the next cast or two. Reel them just fast enough to get them "plopping", and they seem to be at their best.

I have lakes that they won't touch them, but they kill a buzzbait, and vice versa. Sometimes a bait just doesn't seem to work on a body of water while another does great for whatever reason.

that's an expensive day! I feel the pain though, I lost all of mine within 3 weeks, it's ridiculous.

so, the broken one I mentioned I used yesterday for a little bit, the spinning part sometimes presses against the body and wont spin but if i do it slowly it'll be ok, but I threw it and absolutely nothing.

I seriously dont know how you guys have success, I can SEE HOW you would, but my reservoir bass dont care for it.. throw a buzzbait tho? they'll annihilate it

I caught a 1.5lber yesterday on a watermelon red flake baby brush hog, love those but i need more weight on it than 3/8th oz weight, i can only cast it like 20ft -_-

nonetheless, I like hearing people having success on the water, so rock on fellas!

@DogBone_384: Mebbe the western Massachusetts bass are lazier, but I had similar results as you until I tossed one (Monkey Butt 110) and let it sit while I secured my kayak paddle and got clobbered while it was sitting there. (Danged think broke off and stole my lure when I tried to lift it into my yak and I watched my lure swim away! Felt bad for the fish, not to mention my wallet.) Anyway, I found that Bone and Monkey Butt both worked better for me if I let them sit until the ripples disappear, then do a couple of short sweeps (a foot or so) before retrieving. Still haven’t caught anything on a straight retrieve at any speed.

Can't work all the time. Were you using different colors and sizes?

The Whopper Plopper is way more versatile than a buzzbait. It can be cast way farther, can be used at a far wider range of cadences, can be stopped and go'd, and has 2 treble hooks versus 1 hook.

nope, just the bone, its not the biggest - not sure if it's the smallest (90), I think its the middle size.

I sort of agree, only with the stop and go.

I can cast my buzzbait an absolute mile, I can pop it and create disturbances as far as cadence, I can make it dance on the water in the same fashion as a plopper, a trailer hook if anything helps with the hook ups (but yes, trebles are $).

I find the buzzbait still superior though

All but two Ploppers are 90’s.

I just purchased three 110's and one 130 I think it is the longest one.

i hope they work better then bait balls are collecting dust. Maybe they will be antique someday and worth money.

I'm a hopeless romantic for any topwater lure...Ever.

But topwater is my bread n butter when it comes to bassin. I've been fishin with the WP (whopper plopper) since it first came out, so trust me when I say....

It works.

Not only does it work, its my favorite topwater lure without question or contestation. Don't get me wrong, I love my frogs, Jitterbug's, Rebel Craw's, buzzbaits, Floating minnows, poppers, etc etc. But they are nowhere near as diversified when is comes to presentation vs. the WP. I've always affectionately called it "the multi-tool of topwater fishin."

You can burn it, rip it, pop it, hop it, walk it, etc. It can do it all. However, it has an Achilles heel though.....It can't dive.

I'll also add that night fishin with it is absolutely incredible with jaw dropping suspense. And, I caught two 40" Muskie (the fish of 10,000 casts) in just one week while fishin for bass with my bone colored 110.

I won't lie, it took me a few weeks to really master the WP, but once I did....It was game on. So if you have any questions regarding the WP, (tuning the body shaft by bending it, tuning the curl of its tail/prop, or anything about it..... I'll gladly help out.

Good luck, fellas.
