Rodney Smith Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 (edited) My wife just surprised me with a trip for me and my son to The Angler’s Inn at El Salto for my 50th birthday. We leave in a couple of weeks. I’m trying to plan for the trip. I would love to hear from some one who has been there. I have plenty of tackle, but with some tight flight arrangements and no margin for error, I’m not necessarily looking forward to bringing my own rods. They have a tackle lure package (expensive) and it says they supply rods on a first come, first serve basis. I am trying to pack light so I don’t have to check luggage. What should I do? Super User Dwight Hottle Posted October 15, 2017 Super User Posted October 15, 2017 Buy or borrow some travel rods so you can carry them on. Loomis, Diawa, St Croix and others offer them. Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 15, 2017 Super User Posted October 15, 2017 Check what the lake water level is, El Salto was about 1/2 full not too long ago. During the fall the bass may be on the off shore humps and Swimbaits, spinnerbaits and deep diving crankbaits in Tilapia colors ( crappie or red ear are close enough) darker greens w/ black highlights can be good. Rocks and wood so heavier tackle with 15 to 20 lb Big Game works good in lieu of braid. Good luck, Tom PS, pm Rual, he may know what is going at El Salto Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted October 16, 2017 Super User Posted October 16, 2017 When I went to Baccarac, bringing my own equipment was a very good decision. To me, trips like this are too valuable to risk with mystery rental equipment. Since you’re local, I could be persuaded into letting a fellow BR member borrow my travel rods (the ones I got for Baccarac) for this trip. You get the best of both worlds - quality equipment that is with you at all times in a carry-on rod tube 3 Quote
