38 Super Fan Posted October 14, 2017 Posted October 14, 2017 I've been fishing out of an old 16' Bass Tracker for years now, she's served me well, (in fact, I'll be keeping it) but I've been wanting to try out a glass boat for a while now. So, after combing through the craigslist adds and facebook for a couple months, I came across a pretty nice 2004 Skeeter TZX 190 and ending up taking her home: Got my first trip out in it yesterday, ran like a top. Way different to drive than a Tracker! After a little porpoising, then swamping the back after slowing down, I started to get the hang of driving it pretty quick. So far, I'm very happy with it. 14 Quote

38 Super Fan Posted October 15, 2017 Author Posted October 15, 2017 Thanks guys! I was glad to find a nice older Skeeter that didn't break the bank. You don't see them very much in my neck of the woods, this is Ranger country. It's nice to have something a little different, plus I've always liked Yamahas, I've owned a few of their ATVs trough the years and they were always rock solid reliable. Quote
tander Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Nice find, hope you enjoy. Glad to hear you are keeping the tracker for the hard to get in places. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 15, 2017 Super User Posted October 15, 2017 Congratulations on your Skeeter, good boat. If you don't already have a transum saver that doesn't use the trailer roller for support, get one. Tom 1 Quote

What are the advantages of the other style of saver? Quote

What are the advantages of the other style of saver? The traditional roller support transfers road, trailer shock and vibrations to the engines lower unit. The newer designs balance the heavy engine so weight isn't rocking back and forth on the boat transom. There are several designs, some more expensive than others. The least expensive and simple is My-Wedge, the other types are engine make and model specific. Tom 2 Quote

I don't like the saver that came with mine anyway. 22 minutes ago, DINK WHISPERER said: Huge congrats bro! Nothing like your first glass bad boat. Get some better pics though, it looks sweet. Thanks! I know that isn't a great pic, just haven't had time to get more pictures yet. Quote

As with a lot of things, I go belt and suspenders, and use two of them, one on each side. 1 Quote
lilbuddy Posted October 20, 2017 Posted October 20, 2017 First off congrats...I was in your shoes this year as well.... searched, searched and searched...glad you found something. As far as the transom saver goes I have a Rite-Hite and it seems to work well. The red clips will also keep your motor from moving. https://www.amazon.com/RITE-HITE-Motor-Holder-Stabilizes-Effectively/dp/B01LE77D7A/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1508525471&sr=8-4&keywords=transom+saver 1 Quote
38 Super Fan Posted October 21, 2017 Author Posted October 21, 2017 Thanks for the kinds words everyone! Had my third trip out in it earlier today, so far so good. I was pretty anxious the first couple trips, but I'm quickly getting confidence in it now. I think I got a pretty good boat. On 10/15/2017 at 7:48 PM, DINK WHISPERER said: Huge congrats bro! Still not great pics, but here's a few more: It's in nice shape for a 13 year old boat, the seller was the second owner, he figured it probably had under 100 hours on it. It's been garage kept it's whole life too. I've already gotten a lot of compliments when I'm at a gas station, or at a ramp with it. I wasn't expecting that. 1 Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted October 21, 2017 Posted October 21, 2017 That thing would look so sick with some blue power poles! Nothing like finding a well taken care of boat. Same deal with my ProCraft. Owner gave me a box with every piece of paper for maintenance and add ons from 96 to now. Enjoy it man. 1 Quote
