KL Industries Bass Hound 10.4

The Sam's Club in my area has the KL Industries Bass Hound 10.2 with a Minn Kota 28 ft lb. thrust for $860.00 or so.  Seems to be a decent little boat, but I wanted to hear from folks that have bought this boat or boats like it.

I'm wondering how it handles in the water, what size gasoline motors folks have used with theirs, what the results were, how they liked the boat, what they didn't like, will it get up on plane at all, that kinda stuff.

Would love to hear your opinions on the boats.  I'd rather get the 120, but it's not in the budget and Sam's only carries this one boat.

and a battery for around $100.

Boat is longer, will track better in the water, more room  for more gear, you can add seats for $30 bucks each, and the boat weighs less than the plastic one and wont take in water like plastic ones do after a few years.  Then you can convert it a couple of years.

Thats what I would do IMO.

I was serious looking at one of these plastic boats, but the problem is there is a couple small rivers i like to fish, and if the wind picks up a little those things would like just scary, they seem only good for small ponds, personally i would go with a jon boat. Just my 2cents.

Since you asked for an opinion, I'll give you one.  If you fish alone, it should be OK.  But if you fish with somebody else, you'd better be good friends.  It's just small.  I used to have a 12' jon.  Great for just me but crowded with 2.  Don't even think about 3.  IMO, you'd do better to get a 14' jon.  You can get a 1436 for about the same price, maybe a little less, and get a 34lb T/M and have a much better boat.  I realize that it won't be set up with lights and pre-wired for a T/M, but it's not hard to go that way, and it can fit in a pickup bed if you don't want or can't afford a trailer.  Just my $.02

BTW, if you hunt around, you may be able to get a whole rig for about $1000 or so.  I'd save my money for that.

My addiction started 15 years ago with a 9' plastic "pond jumper".  Very stable in small water, would have never thought of taking it to a bigger lake.  5 years ago my 11 year old son became interested in fishing and we purchased a used 15 foot aluminum v hull w/ a 25hp johnson and trolling motor.  It was very stable up to a point.  I paid attention to wind and waves on larger bodies of water.   I paid 1400, mostly motor.   In the last 3 years I have upgraded 2 more times and a bundle of money more so be careful to not get bit as hard as I have.  I still have the 15' er for ponds and you can find them if you look.  I was never crazy about the rocking of a jon boat.

Its a 10.4 or a 10.2, Ive seen the 10.2, even thought of getting one.

Ive looked into Jon boats, found them expensive in my area (think it was the 12' - $ 899.00)

Ive fished with a friend a 9.4, and yes its a bit crowded, but we were OK after 5 hrs of fishing (limited casue it was a rental).

I decided in getting a KL industries 12' STD jon boat (polyurethane-plastic). Just got it registered and shall put it to test this weekend in a 157 acre lake, with a 40Lb MK trolling.

Dave:  I have a 9 1/2 ft Bass Assiassin "plastic" boat that I love.  Don't need trailer; fits in the back of my Town & Country.  I wouldn't take it out on the Potomac (I live in N. VA) or Lake Anna but for the smaller lakes around here it's great.  Had it out on Burke Lake on fairly windy day.  Got some splash into the boat but not that much.  I think the boat was $480 shipped w/o trolling motor.  I think we spent just about an even thousand for everything (I mean everything, paddles, battery, motor, PFDs).  Overall I think it was a great bargin.

There seems to be two schools of thought about these plastic bass boats.  Those that have had them seem to the most part love them, but have later sold them for larger boats when the could afford a larger boat.  I was looking at them as a "get me on the water fishing" boat for as small amount of money as possible and the issues related to stability with smaller jons don't seem to happen with the plastic boats.

I think I may end up having to get one of these, fish the smaller resevoirs and river until such time as I graduate tech school, am back to work and can afford a boat to go out on the larger lakes with.

I'm thinking a 30 lb thrust motor, a single battery and an older 7.5 HP two cycle Evinrude of Johnson oughta set me up about right for the time being.   I think I'll shop for a used one of these.

If you're patient enough maybe a used coleman crawdad...I've seen 2006 models as cheap as $500 used and $700 new. Throw some seats in and good trolling motor and you got quite the plastic setup.

That's exactly where I was/am.  I bought one back in high school to"get off the shore".  I bought the boat, my dad bought the trolling motor.  10+ years and still going strong.  I bought a Jon last year and fixed it up, but still preferred my 2 man boat.  It was just less worrisome in bad weather (wind and cold water).  

So soon as I graduate from college (one more semester), get a job and my finances straight, I would like to buy something like a Bass Tracker and then eventually graduate up to a bigger glass boat.

I’m thinking about buying a 10.2 BassHound with trailer for $800. I have a 34lb thrust trolling motor. I have a 12 ft aluminum Jon boat but it’s hard to manage alone. My conundrum is should I or should I not buy the basshound?

Years back I had one of those plastic bass boats.....not impressed.  I also have a 12' Jon boat and find that just as easy if not easier to move around than the plastic bass boat.   That plastic will dry and crack from UV exposure no matter what they tell you.  My Jon boat is over 50 yrs old and no cracking or anything,  no more plastic boats for me !!
