The place where I fish for bass also has some pretty big toothy critters in it.

I've lost a few lures (along with quite a bit of line) to these monsters. So I've had to use wire leaders, but there's a lot of different ones out there. I believe that sometimes the wire leader may interfere with strikes, because I feel the fish may see these.

Right now I'm using some dark ones with coatshook snaps. Kind of a pain getting some lures on these, but I also have a smaller thinner wire leader that may work better, but I can't seem to find these anywhere. I only have one left, because the other day some big fish took my lure AND the wire leader.

What do you guys use for wire leaders when you're fishing?

I make all my own leaders. I use wire and hardware that are comparable to the lures I'm using. For small jigs or plastics, I use the thin wire that I can tie. For larger baits, I use different wire and hardware. When the wire gets kinked up, I cut off the snaps and split rings and replace the wire. So what if the fish can see them. They can also see the treble hooks hanging from my baits and they still try to eat those. Like braided line, if they were smart enough to figure out that wire is bad, they'd be smart enough not to try to eat hunks of wood, metal and plastic.

I swear by this; however I'm going to try some tieable wire next spring on one of my pike setups. Apparently the tieable wire doesn't impact the bass fishing at all.

Wire works, but consider a short lead of heavy flouro leader material. The good hard stuff in 50-80# test. The only reason I say this is I've used wire a lot on one particular lake near my home where it seems  Muskie love jigs, and the bass run large. I've had the wire saw clean through a basses jaw by the time I hauled her out of the slop. Probably doesn't matter with hard baits, only those baits bass inhale deeply.   Just my humble opinion.

Could I tie 50 lb flouro to 15 lb braid? That's what I have on my reel right now is 15 lb Power Pro. Perhaps get the 50 lb Power Pro as well? Can a pike still chew through 50 lb flouro?

I ordinarily connect the mainline to heavy leaders with a swivel.

I tried the knot2kinky and hated it.  I bought 3 different sizes...couldn't tie it worth a darn...and when I did, I didn't trust it.   Used 12 and 15 # Yo-Zuri Hybrid, instead.  That 15# YZ is like steel, anyway
