So today was a good and bad day , first time out in a week so I was pretty excited.. hit the water around 6:30 am for some great top water bite.. well the bite was amazing buut the fish just wanted to play today.. throwing buzzbaits and all the fish wanted to do was come up and smack he lure 2 feet in he air and swim away.. must have been a game of tag between the fish. Had some huge ones come out of the water but nothing wanted to really commit.. switched over to a senko and they just couldn't resist. Got these two 5 pound piggies back to back.. the one decided to jump out over a log and back down threw.. it was at that moment i remember why I always always use braid.. overall good day!

Thanks Mann nice fish yourself the other day. I was just gonna comment on it. I tried using the pop max and still have yet to catch anything. Do you use braid ? I couldn't load your video for some reason.. was going to try and watch how you retrieved it. I keep having problems with the treble hooks catching my line when I pop. I use 20 pound braid on my casting rod.. never ever used a popper so still figuring that out

Yes I do prefer & use braid for open water topwater.

I usually need to make very long casts and the braid is king for getting a solid hookup so far out.

Using a short 2 or 3 ft mono leader in front of your topwater will solve your braid tangle problems.  12-15 lb should do it.

That pop max is a very versatile bait in that you can pop it (obviously) you can walk it & even wake it.

But sometimes a single pop & sit for 5 0r 10 seconds  then repeat is very effective; especially in calm conditions.
