Super User .ghoti. Posted October 5, 2017 Super User Posted October 5, 2017 Anybody get in on this. NFC blanks at 60% off. I got two. they are going fast Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 I got two of the IM blanks. They are very much like an upgraded IMX blank and just a touch lighter in weight. Some I looked at had the same exact tip and butt specs as the old reliable classic bass rods/blanks. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 6, 2017 Posted October 6, 2017 60% is about what they're overpriced to begin with. 3 Quote
Super User MickD Posted October 6, 2017 Super User Posted October 6, 2017 Any warranty? NFC has gone bankrupt, haven't they? Quote
Super User webertime Posted October 6, 2017 Super User Posted October 6, 2017 Talked to them at great length on Monday. No warranty on the RODS you build. They test the blank, then they want you to test the blank before the build. If there's an issue, it'll fail then. If you build a rod and you are a hack or whatever, then the rod breaks how can it be said that the blank was bad and not the build/handling that caused it to fail. 1 Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted October 7, 2017 Posted October 7, 2017 They just brought out a new series of rods, the deltas, and upgraded some of the fly blanks, as of a month ago everything was fine over there. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted November 25, 2017 Super User Posted November 25, 2017 I got one at "50%" from the NFC site. But shipping was $30! They had the blank I wanted so I bit. Will have a graphite Tennessee-handled XF UL/L for under $200. I hope I like the blank. Hate buying rods unseen. Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 26, 2017 Posted November 26, 2017 St Croix, rainshadow, rodgeeks, MHX , point blank all offer quality blanks at competitive price points. 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted November 26, 2017 Super User Posted November 26, 2017 Don't overlook American Tackle Bushido fresh water blanks. Very nice blanks at very attractive pricing. 1 Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted November 26, 2017 Super User Posted November 26, 2017 Thanks, guys. I'd looked at St Croix, Rainshadow, and MHX, and then Bushido just now. The closest RS blank (66F, 2-6lb) I saw in action on YT vids. In both, the rods looked too soft in the tip. They bounced when cast and just caved under load leaving the guy wrestling his perch with about half a rod engaged. Exactly what Im trying to avoid. I went with the NFC -and the exorbitant shipping- bc they had a 6ft XF 4-8lb (assuming this is a Mag-Light taper), which are the closest numbers for what I'm looking for -a Ned/hair jig rod. Hoping the XF action makes up for the Mag-Light tip. We'll see what arrives; Keeping my fingers crossed. As with any rod I bother to build, I'm hoping it'll be so wonderful that I'll have it buried with me when I pass on to the big pond. Quote
spoonplugger1 Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 Paul, Your blanks sound like a small redesign of a G Loomis blank that was around for 30 years or so. The rod the SJR700, same action, power, and lure discription as your blank. It was 70 inches, 5 ft. 10 in. long in the old design and I have one in the old IM6 graphite, circa late 70's if I remember right. It was a favorite of the Hall of Fame angler, trick caster, newspaper writer and author, Stan Fagerstrom. Myself and others have found it makes a fantastic light line smallmouth, and deep water crappie rod, use it to fish for larger trout also, even caught a steelhead on it. We use it as is, and it's pretty popular to extend it to around 6 1/2 ft. You could have done much worse, it's one of my keepers I'll never go without. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted November 30, 2017 Super User Posted November 30, 2017 Thanks, spoonplugger1. Good to hear. NFC calls it a "remaster" of the SJR721, but that must be a typo bc specs are same as SLR720. Guess I'll just have to wait for NFC to get around to shipping it. Quote
whiskeypete Posted January 20, 2018 Posted January 20, 2018 Just got an MB 709 (HM). Looking at some more blanks now Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted January 21, 2018 Super User Posted January 21, 2018 Received my SB601 a while back. Almost finished with it. I see NFC is having another "50%" sale now. Quote
