STEEZEX100HL

STEEZ103HLA/STEEZ100HLA

I know with the 103/100HLA that the difference is spool capacity (maybe something with the braking system too, can't remember)... but besides the quick spool change thing on the EX is there really any other differences between these models...  The choice is really between the Steez EX and the Steez103HLA.  Thanks for any info guys.  I have a lot of the new Steez models, but I want to get one of these for the sake of having one.

Or should I say screw it and just get another Steez A TW(which is a freaking amazing reel)?  Is it worth it to have the older ones or are they out dated by the new A and SV?

There's more differences than just spool capacity between the 100 and 103 1st gen steez. The spools themselves are different. The 103 spool is wild and takes a good thumb. It has the type r rotor and magforce v braking. The 103 also has an 80mm handle. The 100 has magforce z braking and a non r rotor. Much more user friendly. 100 and 103 come in a 6:3:1 ratio. The 100 also has a 7:1:1 ratio option. What quick change are you talking about on the ex? All the Steez reels have a slotted screw on the sideplate to open it up and access the spool. The ex is a second gen steez. Just a revamped 1st gen steez but there's nothing different internally. You do have the option of 7.9 gear ratio in the ex series. The xs models come with a 100mm handle. The gearbox is larger to house the larger gears on the 7.9 reel.

The 1st gen is a great reel and for what you can buy one for now it's worth owning one.

What I'm looking at is a EX @ $340 brand new, the 103 new was $345... the price really wouldn't be a deciding factor that's why I was asking.  I love my other Steez reels, but everything is a later gen.  I can also get the new A TW for $360 (which is currently my favorite reel I own period).

Decisions are a ***** sometimes, lol.

You can pick up a used but good condition 1st gen steez for $200-250 all day. I've never looked into the ex models. It wasn't enough of a change from the previous reel for me. At $350 you can grab a Steez limited 105. Then at $350 I might be forking out the other $50 for a used Steez sv tw 1016. I won't pay retail these days. Like you said, decisions...

Problem is me and my OCD which leads to me having issues buying used reels from people.  I have the same issue with my guns too, lol. If I'm going to put a scratch on it so be it, but to buy something with some wear on it will do nothing buy irritate me.

I put reel covers on all my higher end reels and don't throw my stuff around the boat.  I've fished my Steez A TW a ton since the spring, probably a good 40-50 times out since purchasing, and you would think that thing came out of the box 2 weeks ago.

I'm the opposite, I prefer to buy used for most stuff so I am less ticked at myself when I inevitably damage it.

And you don't lose much if you sell.

Yes, exactly. You already have to sell for 60% of what you paid anyhow. At least that's how it seems for me. It's a lot less painful when you sell a reel you bought for $250 for $200 verse selling a reel you paid $400 for $250-275.

I won't be selling any of my Steez reels I buy.  If I ever get to the point where I don't use that specific reel anymore it will get retired and put on a shelf.

Oh and I bought the Steez EX100HL 6.3 btw  :)

It is supposed to arrive this afternoon.

I've got a DC reel on a DX704 that will be getting replaced.  Guess a new rod will be in my future at some point too, lol.
