npl_texas Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I'm looking for a very light baitcasting reel to pair with a Dobyn's Champion Extreme 733. I use it for weightless and light weight soft plastics. I searched some older threads and couldn't find anything very recent. I'm pretty open but have been mainly looking at: Shimano Aldebaran Lews Team Lite Daiwa SS SV 105 - I can't find any solid reviews on this one Please let me know of any experience or recommendations you may have. Dtrombly Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 No personal experience with any of those, but my uncle uses an SV103 for weightless plastics, that reel bombs them far with ease, I think any SV spool Daiwa would be perfect for this 2 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted October 3, 2017 Super User Posted October 3, 2017 I just bought a Daiwa Tatula SV 103H. And it definitely flings the lighter gear a good distance. 2 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted October 3, 2017 Super User Posted October 3, 2017 I use a Shimano Chronarch 50e. The newer 70 series will handle light lures, soft plastics. 1 Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted October 3, 2017 Super User Posted October 3, 2017 I have a Pix68, JDM Brenious, and 103SV. All three toss Neds on a 1/10 oz. head nicely. I have two ML casting rods, a Kistler and *** that I mix and match the reels with. I can just about spool out the Brenious A++ for all. 1 Quote
The Bassman Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 I've got the Ald. 50. Just got in from some lively UL lipless action. Absolute pleasure fishing in combo with Loomis IMX 722. 2 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted October 4, 2017 Super User Posted October 4, 2017 What to use that is under 6 ounces? Daiwa Steez 100/103 Daiwa Pixy variant Shimano Core 50 Shimano Alde 50 1 Quote
RPreeb Posted October 4, 2017 Posted October 4, 2017 I found my limit today on my Tatula CT100 - I tried a 4" Berkley Powerbait worm weightless and the first cast made a mess that took 10 minutes and a missed fish to untangle. Two more careful attempts, adjusting the brake each time and couldn't get a decent cast with no backlash. Maybe it's mostly my inexperience with a baitcaster, but even my spinning outfit didn't exactly throw that one over the fence. I couldn't use it at all on the baitcaster, even though I've had no problem with any of the larger weightless plastics I've used. I started out today with a plastic fluke swimbait and it cast perfectly every time. I'll just stick to the spinning rod for the lighter finesse baits. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 4, 2017 Super User Posted October 4, 2017 New: Lew's Hyper Mag 5.1 oz. Lew's Team Pro Magnesium 5.3 oz. Lew's Team lite 5.6 oz. Lew's Custom Pro 5.8 oz. Revo MGX 5.0 oz. Pinnacle Primmus Xi HS 5.8 oz. Pinnacle Producer LTE 5.8 oz. Okuma Helios Air 5.6 oz. Pflueger Patriarch XT 5.8 oz. Used: Megabass Alphas ito Ai 5.8 oz. Pixy 5.7 oz. Pixy Airy Red 5.6 oz. PX68 5.6 oz. I haven't been around baitcast reels as long as many. Probably others can add to this list. EDIT: Of those I have the Primmus, Helios Air, Alphas ito Ai, Airy Red, PX68L Type R and Patriarch XT. I like them all. 1 Quote
Super User JustJames Posted October 4, 2017 Super User Posted October 4, 2017 If you already have curado 70 and wanna go with even lighter lure, how about scorpion BFS. I watched reel advisor compare between scorpion 70 VS BFS and seem like a ticket for BFS set up. I don't have SS SV105 but own Alphas SV105 which is good for controlling light lure but distance is far less than curado 70 (lure weight 1/4 oz). I can cast 1/15 oz jig plus Zman grub on SV105 about 10yds with no over run but no way I can do that with curado 70. 1 Quote
npl_texas Posted October 5, 2017 Author Posted October 5, 2017 Picked up a Daiwa SS SV103SH NIB from the flea market Quote

Super User WRB Posted October 5, 2017 Super User Posted October 5, 2017 Your Dobyns 733 isn't light power, it's medium, 2 power would be ML. Hope your new combo works for you. Toml Quote

Toml Yeah, no problem with the rod. I use it for weightless plastics and lightly weighted plastics. It fits the bill perfectly for that. 12 minutes ago, BaitFinesse said: The OP wants an ultra light weight baitcast reel, not a baitcast reel for ultra light weight baits and he already bought it, the SS SV 103. Yes exactly! Quote
