Does the stingray jr hydrofoil really work? I was wondering if anyone on here ever uses one and if so how does it perform. Looking into buying one for under 40 hp. Let me know anyone has one and if it's worth it.

my father in law had a 16 ft v bottom with a tiller steer 40hp on it. it did not have power tilt/trim.

to get on plane with 3 people he had to manually put the motor on the lowest trim position. this made the boat push a lot of water and it did not go very fast.

he put a hydrofoil on it. then he could trim the motor up a couple notches, but could still get on plane and go quite a bit faster

Take a look at Chris Bailey foil's, a lot nicer product and works great. Will get you up on plane easier and you can stay on plane at a lot lower speeds. My RT188 will stay on place at 18mph.

yes they work.I have an 18" ranger r80 with a 150 on it and it jumps on plane so fast.stays on plane at slower speeds and handles better in corners at speed. would highly recommend one to anyone. I'm not getting paid to say this either...

Yes, they work, actually quite well for helping one get on plane.  I don't care for the big whale tale ones.  The SE Sport is more along the lines of what I prefer.

As for reducing speed, if the motor is properly set, there should not be any reduction in speed.  With the two motors I use them on, my boat will run 81+ mph with or without the SE Sport 300 on it.   Now, if your motor is too low on the transom and is letting the hydrofoil run cutting in the water when on plane, then it will probably reduce your speed some.

This is what I have on my boat with a 40 HP, works better than any hydrofoil

How true is it that they reduce your top end does? I've also been contemplating getting one.

I can't speak for the Stingray product, but my Barry's aluminum foil isn't below the water line when the boat is on plane, so zero effect on top end.

I’ve been using the Stingray hydrofoil on my boat since the middle 90’s when there were few choices of hydrofoils available. It does exactly what it’s supposed to do. I can get on plane faster and stay there at much lower speeds. It saves me quite a lot on fuel.
