pondbassin101 Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 It was a beautiful day today by my standards, low 80s, partly cloudy and breezy all day. After getting out of school and doing some things I decided to spend the last hour and a half or so of the day fishing. In doing so I managed to find out why the Booyah Pond Magic is called magic. At a pond down the street I managed to catch 13 or 14 bass and 1 sunny on a white Magic in about an hour's worth of time. That being said, none of the fish were over 2 pounds, but it was still a big moral boost after catching MAYBE 2 or 3 fish a day at that same pond most of the summer. The fishing down here is finally getting to decent levels for me. I hooked every fish except one in the middle of the right side of the jaw, don't know how. 4 Quote
Sword of the Lord Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Pond fishing always seems to be excellent here in Central Illinois. They're stocked, they're hungry, and you can basically fish the whole thing and hit every spot. Quote
Fishing_FF Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Sweet, congrats! I'm out on of town, but looking forward to getting some pond fishing done when I get back. Cooler weather with clouds is an good recipe for success. Quote

The whole summer the water temps have been in the lower to mid 90s and the fish were just extremely sluggish. The bottom is still chocked with some kind algae covered grass, so no crankbaits or jerkbaits, or anything with exposed hooks. It's mainly been t rigs, soft plastic swimbaits, and : burned pretty close to the surface Quote

Long hot days after days really seemed to out a hurt in my fishing as well. A friend who is a FLW tournament fisher seconded my thoughts, saying he hates fishing in September and it is by far his worst month of the year. Hurricane Irma didn't help either, wrecking their homes and turning the fish off. Glad to see thing are getting better and the fish are biting again in the ponds. Quote
Super User JustJames Posted October 3, 2017 Super User Posted October 3, 2017 September last year was a good month for me at small communities pond about 5 acres. This year not very good yet in term of quality on bigger lake. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 3, 2017 Super User Posted October 3, 2017 Fishing around here picked up in early September when it cooled off. Mid September when the temps when back up the bass shifted back into summer mode. Quote
BassB8Caster Posted October 3, 2017 Posted October 3, 2017 Im seeing the opposite up here in maine. I have been fishing small ponds (larger than those mentioned above @ 100 acres) and have had to work very hard for those i catch. I am catching them, they just are not where i would think they should be. The last pond i fished sunday was a shallow pond being 10 feet at the deepest spot. It had a ton of vegetation and flats with 1 to 2.5 feet of water. To me, the fish should be all through these flats. The water was clear and they would be able to feed very well. The water is also getting cool. Should be roaming feeding time. But i could not find them relating to this cover. Only a gew pickerel hanging in a few spots. The fish i caught were scattered around. Just one here, one there. Now i dont know how many fish are in here as i have now only fished twice there. But i know there are alot more than i caught and im sure there are some good ones too. Biggest i caught was 2.66lb. Think its this transition period people talk about? The fish havent quite turned on? Quote

I'll 3rd that, fishing was insanely bad last month. My friend said he would walk out of his house and smell all the dead fish from debris choked and oxygen starved ponds after the hurricane. September really seems like the hottest for me, fishing was absolutely brutal from mid August through the end of september. Im waiting for the first real cold fronts, hopefully the activity picks up a bit more. I honestly can't remember when was the last time I did any kind of crankin. Quote
